He's been declining for over a year now and has been mostly dreadful this season. Were he almost anyone else the majority would be advocating axing him from the team.

 

He can't be an automatic choice on past heroics forever and I'd be very surprised and even more disappointed if he's first choice by Christmas unless he experiences a gargantuan upturn in form. Unfortunately, I think he's 'gone'. Never the quickest or most skilled, he relied on perfect, oft-last ditch timing and literally the slightest bit of physical decline can make the decline of such a player much more obvious and shocking that it would be in many instances.

 

Sami got away with it for much longer because he was the cerebral side to Jamie's undiluted passion.
