Veron.

This isn't even a debate.

Veron wasn't TOTALLY shit in England. He needed more time on the ball than he got, and wasn't suited to the high tempo football at ManU. At Chelsea, he had the twin problems of recurring injuries together with a manager who changed formation and personnel week after week. A bit like Robbie Keane for us, a good player in the wrong place.

As for worst ever, it's hard to say. Some names have been mentioned already but here's my view on them:

Marcelinho - did he even play?

Boogers - credit for flooring the Neville sister, but fucked off to live in a caravan after that.

Raducioiu - could not be arsed at West Ham.

Dia - Souness got him to Southampton on the strength of George Weah's "agent". Cannot have seen him train or play before picking him.

Dundee - could not be arsed full stop.

McShane - this total abomination on the arse-boil of the shit end of the Premier League somehow managed to put one past us last season. How shit was our defending on that day? Makes a blind pub footballer look like Xabi Alonso.

What about Andreas Silenzi?

"However, in the summer of 1995, Silenzi was signed by Nottingham Forest's manager Frank Clark for £1.8m, becoming the first ever Italian to play in the English Premier League. But he never fitted into the set-up at the City Ground, making 10 league scoreless appearances in the 1995-96 season. After only two appearances in 1996-97, Silenzi was loaned out to S.S.C. Venezia. In total he went on to make only 20 appearances (seven starts) for Forest, and scored only two goals: one in the FA Cup and one in the League Cup. It is alleged that his contract was torn up by Dave Bassett (who took over in March 1997), for allegedly refusing to return from his loan spell at Venezia.[1] In the English press he is considered as one of the worst ever signings by an English club.[2] His failure at City Ground reportedly cost the club nearly £3million."

Apart from his MOTM display when they beat us at Anfield, think it may have even been his debut.

He stunk the place out in every game except that one the big jabroni.

"Every". All three of them. £4.4 million for a keeper in 1999, when we paid £6m for Pepe in 2005.

I remember they went through a stage a few years back of buying utter dross. Djemba-Djemba and Klbereson could be added to that.

Kleberson was a corker. I just read his wiki

His World Cup performances led to Scolari declaring Kléberson the driving force behind Brazil's Cup winning side, and drew interest from several English and Scottish teams. Newcastle United, Leeds United and Celtic all expressed an interest. Leeds failed to secure the signing after Kléberson decided against leaving Brazil without his girlfriend, who he was unable to marry until her 16th birthday. Eventually, it was Manchester United who signed Kléberson for a fee of £6.5 million. Seen as a replacement for Juan Sebastián Verón, Kléberson was injured in his second appearance for the club and made only 28 for the club in total. During his time at United, he also lost his place in the Brazilian national team.

Shrewd business by Ferguson. Replacing one failing midfielder with a far cheaper failing midfielder.
