You think so? I don't see Evra every week but from what i've seen of him I reckon he's class.

Cole. Clichy. Evra etc can't defend is myth and absolute bollox. It's like those who say that skillful players don't "work hard"... because they have other skills like going forward which stands out people miss that they are part of excellent defensive back fours.

Riise's been part of an excellent back four, doesn't stop him getting dogs abuse.

It's because he's fucking shite. I haven't been nearly as critical as some have towards Riise but he's very average defensively. So naive with his positional sense.

Signing another full back whose main attribute is pace and attacking would suggest a more attacking approach from Rafa next season.

I saw an interview with Rafa the other day and he was mentioning the fact that he wants our full backs to be more offensive, so that's a good sign.

Agreed, if we stay with our current formation (which I desperately hope we do), we have absolutely no width. With more pace, and a greater hunger for attack from our full backs, we could see that deficiency reduced significantly.

Not to mention Babel and Kuyt(or whoever before anyone throws a hissyfit), being able to remain closer to Gerrard and Torres, and thus closer to the box, which is where you want your attacking players to be.

''Rafael Benítez had been quoted £8m for the 26-year-old, who is not in Italy's squad for the European Championship but who the Liverpool manager has identified as the solution to his problems at left-back. The Anfield club are confident of striking a deal for closer to £6m, however, and the defender has informed Udinese he would like to move to the Premier League.''

That is JAR summed up and to say he is shite is just wrong but he is very very average.

Found this (on Red Café). Sounds good.

I've seen Dossena play all season long at Udinese (got seats for every home game) and I don't think he would take too long to settle at LFC. He's a fast and pretty strong full back' date=' who can even shoot the ball and has scored on a couple of occasions this year. This year Udinese played 3-4-3, and he was the wing back on the left obviously, but last year he played as the left back of a 4-3-3 formation, so he can pretty much do both. The lad's got also good attitude, never quitting on plays, running all the time back and forth and such. Impressed with his stamina as well, could not believe on several occasions how many times he went up and down the left flank at full steam.

As good as a defender as Fab I reckon, but much better in the air, so that's a plus. His technique is not as good as Aurelio, who has a great left foot, but is still more than enough for a defender. He's also very good with movements off the ball, a thing that Udinese used a lot, with Dossena making runs on the left and Di Natale picking him, and giving him the chance to cross from the byline. As long as he learns to play well with Babel, he could really become a threat. Just think of it, Dossena makes the run, Gerrard picks him out, all the while Babel cuts inside from the left, along with Torres... cross from the left and... you get the picture[/quote']

This is being backed up in the Daily Post.

''Udinese rate the 26-year-old defender at around £8million, but Liverpool are confident of brokering a deal between £5-6million.''

Dossena future unclear Saturday 24 May, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Liverpool target Andrea Dossena has yet to give the green light to a move away from Udinese, according to his agent.

Federico Pastorello told Viola News that the 26-year-old defender is attracting the attention of several clubs, including Napoli and Fiorentina.

“The future of the player is still very uncertain,” Pastorello explained. “He will decide everything in the coming weeks.”

Pastorello was keen to push a link with Cesare Prandelli and Fiorentina, who are looking for a new stopper after Tomas Ujfalusi left for Atlético Madrid.

Prandelli worked with Dossena while Coach of Verona in 2000 and is believed to hold the recently capped Italian in high regard.

“Prandelli knows Dossena very well, he is aware of his strengths and weaknesses,” said Pastorello.

The Viola are, however, very close to a deal with Catania for their electric Peruvian wing-back Juan Vargas.

Nevertheless, Udinese Coach Pasquale Marino is resigned to losing Dossena, whose last-ditch tackles and darting runs became a hallmark of the Zebrette’s campaign.

Don't like the sound of that last ditch tackling.

Nothing wrong with last ditch tackles. That could just mean he's the only one of the defence not caught out of position and has to cover others mistakes.

More concerned about the overall article. Sounds like he's more keen to stay in Italy than come to us.

Viola join race for Reds target

Liverpool look set to face fierce competition from Italian side Fiorentina for the signature of Udinese left-back Andrea Dossena.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez has reportedly targeted the £8million-rated 26-year-old defender to help bolster his defence at Anfield next season. And a deal looked to be in the offing when the Serie A side admitted talks have been ongoing between themselves and the Merseyside giants.

However, Udinese's sporting director Pietro Leonardi insists they are no nearer announcing Dossena's departure.

"We have not got an agreement yet with the English side," he told the Italian media. "We are negotiating, but we will talk again next week. For the moment, nothing is done."

Dossena's agent Federico Pastorello has also spoken out to reveal that the player has not made up his mind about where his future lies, while Udinese's Italian rivals Fiorentina are now being heavily linked.

Viola coach Cesare Prandelli managed Dossena at Verona earlier in his career and it appears he wants to be reunited with him this summer.

Pastorello said: "The future of the player is still very uncertain. He will decide everything in the coming weeks.

"Prandelli knows Dossena very well, he is aware of his strengths and weaknesses."

if we fuck this up, parry must die

It sounds like Udinese and the player's agent are trying to up the ante. If the player hasn't decided as to whether he wants to go to Liverpool or Fiorentina then he can fuck off. It is a no-brainer.
