I reckon we're still in with a rather slim chance of winning the league. There's still another twist to this season. United have to go to both Arsenal and Spurs away in the next few weeks. I know we have Chelsea but if we can manage to get a result against them and United slip up at Spurs and Arsenal then the title becomes wide open again, with them still to go Chelsea and Anfield there's still a chance of recouping a lot of the deficit. I'm not saying we're going to win the league or that we should be looking to win it but that there's still hope; walk on with hope in your heart. Take each game at a time, don't give up and see where we get.

rotation smotation

if we'd stuck our chances away and defended properly against the likes of sheff utd, blueshite, chelsea and blackburn at home, we'd be still right in mix with a fresher squad than any of our rivals.

andy gray has a lot to answer for.

some people also forget that we lost two of our regular defenders on the first day of the season, which disrupted us for a good few weeks and meant that we then had to introduce new players who really needed more time to be eased in.

add that to key players out of form and tired after a long year and world cup, a freak fixture schedule, with a few internationals thrown in for good measure.

United have to travel to Everton third to last game of the season. Lets hope that Everton are in with a chance of Europe, them getting a result against the Mancs could be decisive. ;)

Imagine the mancs slip up, we go on a run and are in with a serious chance of winning the league. A lot hinges on the result of Man U vs Everton. European qualification or not, I wouldn't put it past them bitter bastards losing on purpose.

Leaving out the United/Chelsea/Everton/Arsenal defeats - headline losses against 'big' teams and a derby debacle - we've dropped:

Sheffield Utd 2 pts

Blackburn 5 pts

Boro 2 pts

Bolton 3 pts

Portsmouth 2 pts

________________

Total 14 pts - the exact margin we're trailing United by.

It's frustrating in a way. A few of those draws converted into wins, and we'd still be very much in the running. Then again, in Brent-speak, if my uncle had tits he'd be my auntie.

What do you all think is now a realistic aim for the season considering where we are and how we're playing? Personally, I think second is just about achievable, but unlikely; third should be nailed on, though. Hermes talked about 75 points being respectable, elsewhere, and from where we are now with 40 points and 16 matches remaining, that would be decent - especially when the shite first third of the season is taken into account.

However, can we do better than that? With 48 points to play for, how many can we get? A non-Red mate said to me today that he thought we'd lose at least another 2 or 3 despite our improvements. That's 9 defeats in a season! Anyone think we can remain unbeaten in the league from this point on? There are no genuinely tough away fixtures left and we look nigh on unbeatable at home (although I'll believe it when we've played the big three and the BS).

So, predictions please. I'm going for a wildly optimistic second and 80 points.

3RD WITH 75 POINTS

two top quality players in the summer, would give us the best chance of success next season.

Exactly. No more Aurelio's/Pennants/Gonzalez's etc. Two players who will be first choice.

I've said it before, improving the squad might give us the best reserve team in England.

Improving the "team" might give us the best team in the Premiership.

We've had a revolving door of crap out/shite in for far too long.

And my dog ate my homework.
