FA Cup 3rd Round

An away cup tie at Arsenal is not ideal, especially as our recent record in the FA Cup against them is nothing to shout about. Since Shanks became manager, we have faced Arsenal in the cup 8 times (9 if you count the upcoming game), with half of those coming this century. We beat them in the 5th round twice in the early 60s but since then, the 2001 final is the only time we've got the upper hand. Despite 8 wins plus a number of runner-up spots, our FA Cup record is regularly mediocre and getting to the quarter finals feels like a rarity.

So many teams in the 3rd round draw so in theory we should come up against sides we very rarely face, but we seem to draw familiar foes all too often. Whenever I was asked who I would want in the cup, I've always said Sheffield Wednesday away or Forest away. We met Forest in the quarters on our way to No8 2 years ago. We haven't played Sheffield Wednesday at all this century, and I remember them as top flight regulars back in the 90s.

Is that really anomalous?  If you get to the later rounds you don't expect to meet Shrewsbury.

True, but we haven't gotten far that often under klopp unfortunately.

Apart from the finals, 2 league Cup ones and 1 Fa cup, we usually go out early enough.

It's also massively anomalous in that city ,especially, rarely ever get premier teams in the early rounds.

I'm not calling it a conspiracy, its just a really fucked up run of teams from the top division in the cups.
