Yep. On paper possibly only France look better. Italy and Germany on par with England. Obviously the pant shitting follows England when it matters unlike the other 3 mentioned there.

I think with a better coach they'll not be as effective as this.

 

They are the very definition of more than the sum of it's parts and Southgate is responsible.

 

Give them a 'proper' coach and you lose this, like they will find out when he leaves.

I don't know Bruce, a Klopp or Guardiola would get them over the final hurdle (unless it's penalties obviously!)

 

Not that aforesaid duo would ever likely be in the running but you know.

True. Capello couldn't get a proper tune out of a team with Gerrard, Lampard, Rooney, Terry, Carrick, Ferdinand and Wes Brown. Southgate does seem ideal right now.

I think they're happy and comfortable being the upper end of average to good, without expecting to take the next step and he and they are happy with that, allbeit not overtly, just psychologically.

 

If you try to take the next step as England always have they crumble and fail, this is a sweet spot.
