The Official Raheem Sterling Thread (Part 412)

There's no questioning the lad's ability. Those who say he's overrated are deluding themselves. He's an exceptional talent at 20 years of age and is only going to get better. I think £50M will end up being a bargain for City, if the transfer happens. He's going to be worth a lot more than that in a few years, I guarantee it. Anyone who doubts that must have missed some of his best performances for us. All he needs to do is add goals to his game and he'll be a world beater.

Having said all that, he is a spoilt little bastard and if he wants out we shouldn't dig our heels in and force him to stay. Sell him to the highest bidder, excluding Man U if those cheeky fucks ever decide to make an offer for him.

That good? I must have forgotten. Or must be hating him so much it has all receded into oblivion. Now get rid of "the little bastard" for 50m and move on.

By our own standards Andy Carroll is one of the most expensive centre forwards in European football history

Exactly.

We saw fit to spend that much based on half a season raheem has been a part of our set up for much longer.

His age and the facts we are selling to a, snigger, english rival, hes english and will go straight into man citys first eleven when their bench has 500m worth of talent on it as a playmaker we should really be asking for 100m. But we will meakly start unscrewing the top off the lube.....

50m though? He won't start for them. He may initially, until they realise they've been had

For those who claim Raheem's a good dribbler compare him to our very own Daniel Sturridge. Look at the difference in technique, he's constantly in control of the situation always putting the defender on the back foot. Look how quick his feet are as well how quickly he can feint his body in unison with his feet. This is what a good dribbler looks like not Sterling's kick and run down a blind alley impression. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vs7WG4A3zx4

Agreed.

That guy, when fit, is some player.

Sturridge is a very good player - much better than I thought he was going to be when we signed him. However... obvious I know, but his injury record means we can't rely on him too much. If he comes back and stays fit for a long time, great. But I'm not holding my breath. So it's all about the strikers we have in addition to him. Ings and Origi are decent third and fourth choices. We need one more to be ahead of them in the pecking order.

As for Raheem, my patience has worn thin with him. Man City should give us the money and let's get this done. We all need to move on.

Sturridge is a superb player when all is well but much as Sterling's persona non-grata with us all now, I do like how his legs stay attached to his body for more than a sliver of the season.

It's his brain detaching from his head on a semi-regular basis (ie choosing friends/girlfriends/agents) that is the problem.

  • 3 weeks later...

One of the journalists wrote that the protocol for a sick player is to have the club's medical staff go round there to assess the situation. If there's nothing wrong with him, hopefully the club fines begin. Even though it's 'only' 35k per week it feels wrong to keep paying a player who is doing everything he can to get out.

Time to play hardball. Tell him to hand in a transfer request or he doesn't go. Tell Man City it's 50M or we won't even talk. If Sterling doesn't cooperate keep fining him. He is under contract and is obliged to appear for the club on foreign tours etc.

If he ends up staying (highly unlikely) then unless he plays at his peak and is definitely trying, I'd leave him in the reserves. On a point of principle I'd do it for the remaining two years of his contract. We save at least 10M in wages keeping him at his current level, and we roll the dice with a tribunal, which will surely set a record fee. Both things combined would probably see us with 25M. In comparison, sell to Man City for 50M, give 10M to QPR, and we've 'only' got 40M. And that's if they pay 50M. The last offer was around 35M, rising to 40M with add ons.

It's not my money so it's easy for me to say, but the financial difference between letting him rot in the reserves and selling now is not all that great - a Joe Allen or at most a Markovic, perhaps. Not that much for a club like Liverpool. And not a lot for a wealthy owner like John Henry.

Take a stand Mr Henry, and take control of the situation.

Man City transfers: Blues unwilling to meet Liverpool's Sterling valuation

Manchester City are unlikely to meet Liverpool's £50m valuation for Raheem Sterling.

Although the Sterling saga took another twist on Wednesday, as the 20-year-old forward phoned in sick and failed to attend Liverpool training, M.E.N. Sport understands a third bid is not imminent.

City's stance comes just a day after they cooled their interest in midfielder Paul Pogbaover Juventus' £71m asking price.

The developments could severely impact City's transfer strategy, although they remain hopeful of signing Wolfsburg playmaker Kevin de Bruyne.

City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak promised last month the club would make 'high-quality signings', however City's only arrival this summer has been Turkish teenager Enes Unal.

Blues players returned for pre-season training on Tuesday and the club has already had two offers rejected for England international Sterling, who is believed to have told Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers he does not want to go on the club's pre-season tour of the Far East and Australia.

City saw a £25m bid rising to £30m package and then a £35m offer rising to £40m snubbed by Liverpool.

Sterling’s Liverpool contract expires in 2017 and he rejected a £100,000-a-week offer earlier this year while his agent, Aidy Ward, allegedly said in May Sterling would not sign a £900,000-a-week deal to stay at the Anfield Club.

Liverpool have denied claims Sterling 'doesn't want to play' for manager Brendan Rodgers and have reinforced their attack in the event Sterling does leave.

Strikers Danny Ings and Roberto Firmino have signed for The Reds and Belgian forward Divock Origi will link up with the squad after spending a year on-loan at Lille.

Fuck off Shitty. We'll keep and play him in the reserves; don't even care about the financial ramifications at this point. Would be instructive to any possible prospective sterlings in the least and salvage our reputation above all.

The trouble with valuing him at 50 million is the fact he's worth nowhere near that. So I don't blame City at all for walking away, if they do. What we do with a sulking, inconsistent, overrated "star" after that....fuck knows.

Let the little shit sit on the bench. For the reserves. And find a way of fining the little twat his wages every week
