His overall performances in various midfield positions gave me the impression he was better going forward and lacked the discipline to do the job Lucas,for example, does.

He also looks a goal threat so why limit his attacking strengths?

Not many players are ready to play that holding role at his age.

I really like him, you can see how good he is and how good he could be in the long term.

I love German players,especially the central midfielders and sweepers,the keep, things so simple and just control the game so well while being physically able to get stuck in when needed.

Didn't see what Carragher was meant to have said about him at half time but he got a lot of replies on twitter about it.

 

I thought Can did a good job and pretty much had Costa in his back pocket all game. Looks like a solid player and isn't afraid to go forward with the ball. I always liked that about Agger so hopefully we have a similar type of player in years to come.

They clearly targeted him first half and he wobbled, but he came out in the second and bossed it

He showed great mentality to recover after what was a shaky start. He needs to watch his positioning a little bit but I guess thats to be expected. There was a counter attack there in the first half when it seemed the whole side of that defence was awol. He made a great run at one point and played a nice reverse pass that didn't come off. Looks like he has bags of talent.

 

Never dropped his head once and came out of the game in credit.

He was excellent, not least because he showed he has balls as well as talent. I don't think he's got the pace to be a box-to-box mid, not in the PL anyway, but he'll be a very good player for us in other midfield/cb positions.
