On January 22 2005 Liverpool were beaten 2-0 by Southampton, who had few other distractions of that sort as they homed in on bottom spot in the Premiership. The third defeat in a week cracked the manager's defences and there was a dam-burst of condemnation over all his doings on Merseyside. Article continues It was unthinkable then th…

The Independent Benitez's vision the driving force behind Anfield's velvet revolution Even victory at Old Trafford tomorrow in the bitter battle for bragging rights in the North-West will not satisfy the Liverpool manager who has set his sights on a title challenge. Andy Hunter reports Published: 21 January 2006 One of the first congratulatory letters that arrived on Rafael Benitez's desk following the miracle of Istanbul last year bore a Manchester post-mark and a United crest. It was, as the evidence suggests, from Sir Alex Ferguson, who had penned a salute to the Spaniard's remarkable triumph in the Champions' League and, in particular, his decision to st…

Paul Gascoigne and Chris Waddle are in the back seat of a limo whilst riding through Newcastle City Centre. As it's a pleasant evening, the leave the window down. The car stops at a set of traffic lights. Suddenly, a man wearing a Newcastle top walks up to car and starts slagging off the occupants. "Are you Chris Waddle?? You Twat!!! You were NEVER interested in playing for the toon army. Only in it for the money, mercenary cunt. I don't know what you're showing your face here for." "And YOU Gascoigne, you're the same. You can hardly call yourself a geordie anymore. Go back down to London where the money is" The traffic lights change to green. As the limo …

"It should be a great game. The atmosphere is guaranteed. It doesn't matter if it's Anfield or Old Trafford. "The last draw broke our sequence of wins against them. I think it was maybe four or five wins." That'd be two then Alex? You seeing double again?

Away fans in KOP? 1 2 3

It's one of my mate's birthday on the Arsenal game and we're planning to go to Anfield on 14th Feb to watch the match. Now he's a Liverpool fan, but some of the rest being londoners are arsenal fans. I keep telling them we should get KOP tickets, as it would be my first time to Anfield and would be a dream come true to be in the KOP. They all believe however that they're going to get beaten up etc, do you guys know if away fans get into the Kop and how they're treated? Would me being a Liverpool fan help them in any way?

This is our main striker outlay of the past 5 years: 2000 – Heskey £11m 2002 – Diouf £10.5m 2004 – Cisse £14m 2005 – Morientes, Crouch £13.5m So to be fair to the board we have spent a fair amount on strikers these past 5 years – that’s sum £50m odd. Am I a total numbskull into thinking we would have been better off buy 2 or 3 strikers rather than 5 but spent £15-£20m on them? Not being funny but looking at the strikers who have done it season in and season out in the PL since 2000 (Shearer, Henry, Owen we got free but now cost Newcastle £17m, Nistellroy etc) all cost a fair wad but they haven’t need to be replaced year on year. Please, a decen…
