I've just read John keith's excellent biography of Billy. I knew how good a player he was but didnt realise just how great a man he was as well.

He never complained when he was left out the team for 4 months when we struggled in 1958-9, going back to the role of apprentice and studding the players boots. Unbelievably he trained just two mornings a week and even went to work as an accountant on Saturday mornings on days of home games. He helped out at the local Sunday school and attended about 2-3 charitable functions a week.

After retiring from playing he carried on his accoutancy job till he was 60, as well as serving as a magistrate. So many of today's players have so much to learn from him and I really think the club should do something to commemorate him at whatever stadium we are going to be playing in.

Just got it for Christmas Steve, but saving it for me hols!!

Had the pleasure of once meeting him in the old souvinier shop at Anfield, a great man, but like you can't wait to find out just how great in this book!

As it says, "the man who carried the Kop", maybe St.Michael can re-use this for his in the future!?

I got some book by Ned Kelly about ManUre, Unfortunately my Aunt can't seem to tell the difference between the Liverpool and the scum. I am changing it at the weekend so I will exchange it for the book on Billy.

Sounds like a book everyone should read, me old Grandad was a regular at Anfield from 30's to early 70's, reckons he was the best player he'd ever seen, only ever had 2 subjects to talk about, Sir Billy and Boxing.

I remember vaguely at the game outside the ground me Dad told to me to look at Billy Liddle, he was getting out of his car to attend the game.

He has a big part in LFC history, it must of been about 68/69.

Me Dad a staunch Evertonian said Liddel was a fantastic player always spoke very well about him.

Thats right, talking to some older fellas in the Richmond ages ago, Evertonians, one said when we were kids and Everton were away we would try to get in Anfield to see him.
