Benji B's last ever 1Xtra show from last night is on the iPlayer for six more days only. It's basically his favourite tunes from the last eight years and is fucking boss. Check it while you can.

Happily, he's moving to Radio 1 from Wednesday morning, possibly following right on from Gilles.

Was listening to Gilles show on the iPlayer with John Legend which reminded me of the new track he's just done with Magnetic Man, love it. What dyah think Paul?

Yes, I caught it myself. Not especially my cup of tea, but then again anything with that voice on it would be worth listening to.

I never buy those Ministry of Sound compilation CDs because they're usually shit or predictable. However, when the Disco Anthems one came out a couple of months ago I snapped it up, despite already being familiar with loads of tunes on there, simply because the quality was consistently high. That said, when it arrived I was completely blown away by one tune in particular that I hadn't heard before. This is a proper tune and when you listen to it, house music's roots in disco just scream out of the speakers at you.

Haven't You Heard? - Patrice Rushen

And while I'm at it, off the same mix:

Let No Man Put Asunder - First Choice

Gloria Scott - That's What You Say

Clausel - Let Me Love You

Brilliant! (Though pitch-shifter clearly needed for the modern listener...)

Haven't You Heard? - Patrice Rushen

Fantastic tune, Paul.

I know you probably have already, but for anyone interested in top music:

Benji B's been playing a touch too much "Bleep, bleep, Landan, innit?" stuff for me since the switch to Radio 1. However, things are much smoother this week with J Rocc guesting in the studio. Check it:

BBC - BBC Radio 1 Programmes - Benji B, J Rocc co-host

By that do you mean UK funky/garage or grime/rap?

Just being facetious, Mo - I like quite a lot of what he plays and I know it's not all from the smoke; I'm just a soul boy at heart though and when he deviates from the predominantly soulful for too long, I get twitchy.

Yeah I'm with you. My music taste has drifted off from the old soul. Will have to explore this thread further I think. Whatever keeps me away from the FF forum...

The tunes I posted this morning - I think you'll like Ramadanman/Storm Queen/Wolf+Lamb.

I don't mean soul as a genre; I mean soulful in terms of melody and vocal, I suppose.

Of those you posted above, I'm already onto Ramadanman and Onra (got the LP). I love that fourth track and the one with the video that looks like Soul Train or something similar. What are they?
