Henry Wants To Play For Liverpool

Posted on Thursday, September 21st, 2006

Thierry Henry is a classy bloke and has always come across as speaking his mind without trying to play games or deceive anyone. And his latest interview has proven you don’t need to write an awful, awful book in order to reveal something about yourself,

““A kid asked me on Wednesday if I would have liked to play for another team. Straight away I said Liverpool.”

“First of all, I would have loved to play with Steven Gerrard and second I like the club and their fans. There’s something about Anfield that you can’t explain.”

“I love it when you step out of the dressing-room and you see the Kop, the scarves, and [hear people] singing You’ll Never Walk Alone. Just that, that would do it for me.

“Obviously it can never happen because I love Arsenal too much. There can never be a possibility of playing anywhere else in England.”

Certainly the Frenchman’s words are more praise for Liverpool than any sleight towards his London employers - although it can’t be nice to hear your captain admit such affection for another club’s history, stadium and supporters.

Wheres the source? I couldnt find this anywhere. I know that wenger is contemplating whether or not henry should play against spurs because henry has a sore neck but still wants to play. Could be enough to fuel the arguement.

Thats all it is - where do you all keep your fireworks? I need a slash.

Dubai Holdings has secured a deal in principle to invest in the Reds with Rafa Benitez set to receive significant transfer funds.

It is understood a deal was agreed late on Friday evening for the Middle Eastern investors to buy into the club although it is not yet clear if they have secured a controlling interest.

Reds' chief executive Rick Parry has been in negotiation with Dubai Holdings for two years and it is understood that the deal will release considerable funds for team strengthening and for the new stadium project.

Dubai Holdings, the Middle Eastern state's investment arm, looks to big global projects having recently secured an £800m purchase of Madame Tussaud's and the £675m buyout of Travelodge hotels.

They recognise Liverpool's incredible world-wide appeal and are said to be keen to put the club on a level financial footing with the likes of Chelsea and Real Madrid.

How thin are barcelona up front, after larsson left?

I think that's where he'll end up eventually, but I can't see it happening any time soon. Having said that, if you'd told me that Larsson would be at United in January I'd have thought you were mad, so who knows?

They just said on SS1 that Henry has been summoned to a meeting with the manager on Monday after a bust up.

The bust up apears to be about signing players...

Henry earlier admitted to being "disappointed" after being told he was not ready to return to first-team action against Spurs.

But skipper and manager also seemed at odds over the club's plans for the January transfer window.

Henry had said: "The depth of our squad is nowhere near the others. Arsene will try and land a few bargains in January."

But Wenger said: "I will not be signing anybody in January. We will play for the rest of the season with the players we have."

When asked why Henry might have suggested otherwise, he answered: "I don't know, you should ask him."
