It was strange as usually only the elite guys make mincemeat of current British champions etc. Scott Cardle was pretty shit to be fair though, maybe the standard at the time was piss poor.

I think he had something at 135lbs, but he’s too small for 140lbs and his susceptibility to the body was ruthlessly exposed by Patera.

 

At that point, the book was out.

Me too mate. Really liked him too, but Patera unlocked the tactics, which wasn’t a huge secret really - jabbed, one two and rolled away. Ritson spent the rest of that fight and most of his career walking in straight lines after people

It was weird the way he suddenly started walking through people on that British belt run. And it stopped out of nowhere when he got to European at 135 too.

 

I never understood why he went up to be honest - he never looked like he struggled for the weight and was actually fairly fleshy round the middle, then more so at 140.

Yeah looked good despite not living the life and being a bit crazy. He didn't dominate the likes of Fowler and Cheeseman though, so couldn't have seen him going beyond European.
