Irrespective of what graphic was/wasn't on the screen, surely to fuck the VAR cunts are actually watching the match, would've seen Diaz score, then hear the ironic cheers from the Spurs fans with Diaz's face in anguish, then the shot of the lino with his flag up.

So it's as simple as were they watching the match or not.

The context of Man City being investigated for 115 charges needs to remembered in all this. Our owners think their owners are cheats. They think they have evidence that proves this. If this is your starting point how can you not view  a trip to the UAE followed by a series of howlers, as anything other than deeply suspicious?

Giving offside, saying actually it’s onside realising the ref himself has not realised and then just gone "ahh fuck it" absolutely 100 percent is corrupt. Whoever was in charge of VaR should be sacked. In any other job blatently realising a fault and then ignoring it is gross misconduct.

Exactly. A cover up is a separate breach and is often worse than the original breach.

One other thing - I think there needs to be a standard rule regarding the use of stadia screens. Either say they can't show footage during games, or specify what can be shown, in what manner and when. The likes of Spurs are especially bad at using footage on the screens. The showing of that freeze-frame shot of the Curtis Jones incident was really cynical - it immediately whipped up the home crowd and very deliberately so. Some stadia don't show anything, or can't show anything, others show very standard clips, while a few now really make a point of editorialising the reaction. If players get penalised for provoking the crowd, this isn't an action that can be ignored as some kind of club whim. Whe Curtis went off it sounded like they were going off to get the lanterns and forks and hunt him down like a criminal on the run. So much for the 'be kind' mantra the refs are now using.

That is a great point too, stadia should not be allowed to show any replays until a decision is made. This is what they do in cricket but in a different way - captain of the team gets a few seconds to call for a review and until that time elapses, no replays are shown. The TV umpire then looks at videos from different angles, in slow motion, talking all the way through the process whilst the audience clearly able to not only see what the TV umpire is looking at but also hear the audio.

VAR was shoved down the game without having a defined process.
