Maybe based on this quite damning article by Melissa Reddy.  An excellent skewering of the upper echelons of that football club.  In life, if you are given an opportunity to do the right thing, do the right thing.  They didn't:

https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12945077/revealed-how-man-utds-greenwood-decision-was-reached

It's with The Athletic's Adam Crafton who is apparently well connect at Yernited, and the forums favorite bogey women Riley, and it paints a pretty grim picture and is well worth a listen.

Amd he’s not been found to do anything wrong.

He has not been found to have broken a law - companies have their own set of standards. In this case, United's are what they are.

They decided the PR was not good for their brand. Many companies would have, and could have, dismissed him immediately based on the conduct clause in the contract.

Gylfi was never convicted of anything.

Thanks for that. As long as its something rooted in a cinematic dramatisation of 19th century New York slum life then I suppose it's acceptable.

My mate is visiting Glasgow and bumped into Peter Mullan. Big Celtic fan.

Well, the truth is that the contracted was terminated by mutual consent - so he got some cash.

A parallel is Ray Rice from the NFL who was indicted for domestic violence - ironically then married the victim as well.

Immediately released by the team, then suspended by the league itself.

Trial rumbles on - he is acquitted, gets awarded the back pay he missed and then the contract was terminated.

League lifted his suspension and no other team picked him up. Free market.

I can only assume you didn't hear the recording

I get what he's on about. Had they sacked him he likely could take legal action as nothing was done in court.

Having said that a club with their resources could have done a deal that released him to go abroad. Even if they had to pay him off it would have been a better look. They obviously thought he could sit it out and cone back.

It's sickening amd even more so with the online support he gets. God forbid it happened with one of ours but I'd seriously hope we took a decent stand even if it was to the detriment of the team on the pitch

What I or anyone else thinks about the recording is irrelevant.  He denies guilt, he hasn’t been found guilty so therefore he could never have been sacked.

You don't have to be found guilty of breaking the law to have reached a company’s standards.

The narrative over the past 24 hours has neen that they have done the right thing finally is, quite frankly,  a load of bollocks. Even if they didnt want to sack him due to legal considerations, they could have mutual consented him, paid him his contract and fucked him off. They could also have continued to pay his contract and not play him, like Everton did with Gylfi Sigordsson.

But Man United have done neither. Having unsuccessfully attempting to assimilate him back into the team because of fan and public backlash, they have kept him on the payroll and will now try make as much money from the player over the next two years as they possibly can, through loans or a full sale. It is fucking despicable.

Sigurdsson wasn’t sacked mate - they kept paying him and he left when his contract was up didn’t they?

Yes, Greenwood ended his contract by mutual consent, which means he got paid for sure, at the very least any missed wages (though I don't know he wasn't already getting those) and probably got a bump to make it go away.

Gylfi was effectively sacked to Grinch's point about relevance. Similar to Ray Rice above.

Do you think he will ever play again?

Ray Rice above.

Ray Rice may have been released from his deal but the Ravens had to pay every penny of the guaranteed money of his deal and then had agreed to pay him 1.5 of the 3.5 non guaranteed money for the season he was cut.

Yea, that's what is in the post - not sure how the terms broke down but he received @ 3mil.

The reason he is in the discussion is because no one ever hired him again.
