Chelsea got Fabregas and Costa for the same price as Lovren lallana, and Markovic. Imagine what them 2 players would've brought to our team.

This point, to put our spending in context is fair enough, but I'm sick of hearing about it in the main. Fabregas wouldn't have joined us, Costa was someone we tried to sign months earlier. So it doesn't justify the 'dross' we bought, (or as I would say players not ready made but with potential) but people need to be less simplistic and acknowledge we don't' have the pulling power of some and so need to take more risks.

Naming players for other clubs who worked out is easy.

We made two big mistakes in the summer. One was buying the wrong players from Southampton. The other was not replacing Suarez even semi-adequately.

But not only do we have to accept that Fabregas and Costa will choose Chelsea over us (and Willian and Salah) but Sanchez will choose Arsenal or Mikhitaryan will choose Dortmund. Why has LFC got the pulling power of basically Everton? Wages to a degree but we pay a lot more than most, including Dortmund. The club/manager/committee/CEO obviously can't sell a vision to these players.

fact that we really have a chance to sign Charlie Austin frightens me the most

Do we? I thought players only wanted to live in London. That's the stock answer why we're always turned down for anyone half decent.

Why wouldnt have Fabregas joined us? off the back of an exciting season and its not like he was eager to join Mourinho at Chelsea.

Danny Ings for me. Natural finisher apart from when he misses. Reminds me of one of my fav red men. Though nowhere near as good. Get the Burnley cunt onboard. Onwards and upwards'ish I hope.

What I like about Ings is that he appears to be missing the first half of his surname.

I would take one of them over the three we bought.

You might, but then that's not the proposal anyone is putting forward (well maybe you are now). I keep reading on here the players we could have bought with the millions spent, except we couldn't because the package is more than just fees. We won't buy established world stars as they're not in our pay scale.

Charlie Austin actually isn't a bad player. He'd be a better option for us than anyone else we have up front bar Sturridge.

Problem is though hes still not top quality. It seems like we keep aiming a level or few levels below the top players.

Well maybe we actually are aiming higher but we can't attract the best players out there. But I find it hard to believe the line trotted out all the time that we can't attract top players.

Theres probably plenty we can if people were actually busting their balls to make it happen.

Will always go back to Wenger flying his scrawny ass over to Brazil to sort the Sanchez deal. He made it happen. I'd sincerely doubt any of our guys(be it Rodger's or Ayre or whoever) are putting that effort into it.

Tis only conjecture on my part granted.
