Investigatory roles within the Hillsborough Investigation

On 12th October 2012, the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) announced it would be launching an independent investigation into allegations surrounding the aftermath of the Hillsborough disaster. Twenty-four years after the event, our challenge is considerable. That’s why we need experienced Investigators to join us in senior roles. If you are a high-calibre professional with resilience, commitment and integrity, this is your opportunity to help us uncover the facts.

Senior Investigators

£56,560

Warrington

Our Senior Investigators will be responsible for supporting the Lead Senior Investigator and the Director. As part of this team, you will manage three Deputy Senior Investigators, working on the inquiry. Day-to-day, you’ll be allocating work to your team, supervising progress, making recommendations and monitoring performance. You’ll also see that your team’s work is accurate and of high quality, and authorise operational activity.

Senior Investigators must have experience of leading major investigations. Wherever you’ve gained your experience, you must have set the strategic direction, assessed scenes, collected evidence and led a team.

Deputy Senior Investigators

£42,824

Warrington

Deputy Senior Investigators are in charge of a team of Investigators. They supervise case progress, check the quality and accuracy of Investigators’ work, provide guidance and help staff to develop their skills. Deputy Senior Investigators also take on operational tasks such as visiting incident scenes, taking witness statements, preparing casework and attending court proceedings – all with the aim of delivering a thorough, proportionate and timely investigation.

At this level, solid investigatory experience is essential. You should also be adept at managing investigatory teams, with the ability to coach staff and look after their welfare during stressful investigations. Please note that a full driving licence is required.

To find out more and apply, please visit our website: Hillsborough Resource - Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC)

Closing date: 12pm (midday) Weds 5th June.

The other thing that's been bothering me about this why has it taken so long for the BBC bring something like this out? They've had all this 'unseen footage' for decades are they part of the cover up? Doesn't make sense to me.

The footage has always been in the public domain. At the start it is mentioned that it was made available to the families years ago. It's only now that someone has used it to prove the accuracy of the testimony of Derek Bruder, testimony that definitively demolishes the rationale for the 3.15pm cutoff point. Think of it this way. Peter Marshall and the Panorama team couldn't have been certain that the videos would contain the footage they needed to confirm Derek Bruder's account. It must have involved hours of poring over grainy footage looking for something that might not have existed. Top marks to all concerned.

Personally i think it was the brilliant way panorama edited it, from the tragedy and the heartbreak of the day to in the next frame another lie used by the SYP and government of the day blown away.

Back and forth, tragedy- lies.

Damn right. The way they juxtaposed Stefan Popper's fat, smirking arsehole for a mouth dismissing the testimony of Derek Bruder, only to conclusively demonstrate the truth mere moments later, made for fantastic television. I had some right evil thoughts, I don't mind admitting.

Peter Marshall's expression when he was questioning Jack Straw was fascinating, a mix of incredulity and disgust.

Dear came across as thoroughly evil when making his '20/20 hindsight' remark.

I thought it was an exceptional piece of film making. Some people are a bit confused when they question why the BBC 'sat on' the evidence, when they explained at the beginning it was given to the police and the families lawyers from the very beginning, then locked away and not broadcast as it was too harrowing. The relevant people had access to it.
