Who do you want to take over the Captaincy for the next Ryder Cup?

It seems to be down to Montgomerie and McGinley with Clark still an outside chance.

Personally I’d rather McGinley as I think he’s earned it after his successful captaincies in 2 Seve Trophies and as a Ryder Cup vice-Captain also. And of course the fact he’s Irish is a huge plus as well as we didn’t have anyone from the Republic in the last one and it kind of spoiled it a bit for me by not having that link.

I personally don't know why we try and give every ex player a shot at it.

I'd rather we gave the best man the job it every time until he didn't want to do it again.

For me Langer is the best man! But it seems Europe have this policy, and it seems Clarke doesn't want to do it - therefore give it to McGinley.

McGinley cos he's Irish.

What a ridiculous reason to want someone as captain, so if he was even less competent as captain than Faldo you'd want him just based on his nationality? Like mosty people I knew Faldo was likely to make a mess of things as he has zero people skills, the fact he was English and a former great player was neither here nor there.

I want McGinley becuase he's been a vice-captain twice, winning both times, more than played his part as a Ryder cup player and as Clarke doesn't want the job and Monty has had his go, he is the stand out candidate. If I thought he'd make a mess of it I wouldn't want him anywhere near it and nationality wouldn't come into it.

It's not ridiculous at all, is it? It's good to have an Irishman as Ryder Cup captain because it never happens.

He obviously does deserve it, mind.

Yeah Nationality shouldn't be an issue. Should be the best man for the job.

I'm happy with him getting it.

"I knew I had the support of the players, I felt my hand was very strong to be the Captain and if it was meant to be it was meant to be. I felt the more I would say the more my chances would lessen and I felt it was the right thing to do (not speaking out re the Captaincy)".

When asked why he felt he had less chance of the Captaincy if he spoke out;

"I was very tempted to speak up to be honest but I'm very blessed I have a great wife and great friends around me that I respect their opinion of and those friends and Ali my wife told me to stay with dignity in this whole thing and don't get involved and it'll work in the long term for you".

I thought we won at Celtic Manor in spite of Montgomerie. He didnt pick the best team leaving out Casey and Rose because they were commited to playing Fedex tour in the States. Playing politics was not his fucking remit. Some of his selctions for the pairs were questionable. He was all over the place sticking his oar instead of letting them get on with it in the way Olazabal did last year. Last but not least he talks a load of crap and gets right up my nose. Bloody glad he didn't elbow his way into the job for next year. McGinley will be fine .
