I was hoping you’d seen one. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a live one and you don’t even see squashed ones on the roads any more.

There’s been a huge decline in their numbers over the last decade, between 25-40%.

There doesn’t seem to be a clear explanation but its probably all our fault...again...the loss of green spaces especially gardens) in urban areas and agribusiness in the countryside

I hadn't seen one in years but have seen two (or the same one twice) this winter on our street and in the garden. The wife captured the momentous occasion on camera and then we made a little hidey hole in the garden, where I hope it's hibernating.959cbcb5e922dd78f96f5311ec2ed314.jpg

Squirrels are a different matter, see them all the time in the garden, not bad for the top of West Derby Rd. I feel like Ace Ventura.

Little bastards they are, digging holes in your lawn, eating the nuts and seeds meant for the birds and digging up and eating your bulbs

I know Cath, to be fair though the only scourge in my garden is fecking Magpies, cackling horrible wake you up early muthers.

I've long since had to accept while I may own my garden I 'share' it with all manner of wildlife who care nothing for my attempts to do it the way I want...seagulls, magpies, foxes, squirrels, the odd badger, slugs and snails.

I like the small birds that come into the garden and continue to do my best to attract and look after them

Seen a beautiful Thrush in the garden the other day, not seen one for ages.

Decent camouflage that, looks like a patch the dog peed on.

Someone told me it was to do with people having concrete slabs at the bottom of their fences, making it more difficult for the hedgehogs to pass between gardens looking for food. Seen one in my mums garden in the last few years and they’ve got mesh fencing. So that’s gospel now.

My aunt still has them in her garden - they live in some wild bush behind her fence. I think they've finally arrived at the decision that humans are cunts, and like cats are now holed up in underground bunkers, planning our demise and world domination.
