.avi file - help needed

Alright nerds, got a bit of a problem with a .avi file that won't play on my laptop.

It's a clip we got from the hossy from one of my missus' pregnancy scans.

WMP won't play it, giving the error code: Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file. Windows Media Player C00D11B1.

Realplayer won't play it saying: This pin cannot use the supplied media type.

DivX won't play it saying: Unsupported format

VLC at least opens it, but only shows a still picture.

It's a pretty new Samsung laptop, with everything up to date as far as I'm aware...tried the same file in my missus' work laptop and it played no problem. All my other .avi files play no problem but this one is doing my head in. All help appreciated, cheers.

Yeah it's deffo a .avi file. My missus just played it on WMP with no problems, yet none of the programs I've got are opening it.

It's not a huge deal, but I'm worried that something is fucked up/missing on my laptop which will cause problems later on.

Solved!

Downloaded this codec pack for windows 7

Windows 7 Codecs Pack for Windows Media Player WMP12 and Media Center

Thanks both for your help, if I could rep, I would but I can't so you'll just need to make do with my undying nerd admiration.

Cheers lads.

EDIT: Works in everything except VLC which is still showing a still picture but that's good enough for me.

Nice one mate, I thought it was codec related. Nothing worse than when you can't access certain files on the computer, it's frustrating as fuck!
