Let me get this straight, I have not said one word about Rafa.

I said yesterday was a day to remember and mourn over the 96 who never came back from a game they went to see and that it was not about individuals.

That some people are so twisted and obsessed they turn it into a a dig at Rafa is kind of sad, that it has spread over several threads and even on twitter etc is even sadder.

I`ve seen people say Rafa did not need to go yesterday, he did not but I expected him to do so seeing as he lives in Liverpool and has been the manager for 6 years.

Its an emotional day for everyone and with my first original post on the subject I wanted to say I felt it was wrong to focus on Rafa as there are 364 days of the year left to do that.

Some twisted and obsessed people are obviously trying to make out that I`m disrespecting the memory of the 96 when all I`ve done is to say yesterday was a day to focus on them and not other individuals.

For the love of God, move away from this subject now.

i wonder would you have said the same thing had one of us started a thread backing the lord mayors call for our manager to be knighted, some how i doubt it, it seems the mention of rafa showed you up for the wum you are.

point is, whether you think yesterday was a day to remember the 96 and not to focus on individuals is irrelevant because Margaret Aspinall felt the need to focus on certain individuals and point out how good theyve been to the families, thats all that matters.

your right when you say the anniversary is about the 96, but its also about those they left behind, and one of those mentioned rafa, who are we to moan about that.:whatever:

In saying that, though, do you not think his right thumb and index fingers are extremely close in that picture?

To be fair they do look suspiciously close and i suspect there is more depth to that footage which will probably be revealed in time by someones mates cousin who waits outside Melwood for autographs but that's for another day.

Rafa is a pure legend.

A man who came from Spain not knowing much about us, the city or the Hillsborough tragedy and came away from his job 6 years later as one of us. A man who stands beside us come rain, hail or shine.

I've not seen the footage yet as I had a busy day at work and a mad dash to get out last night.

I've not seen the footage yet as I had a busy day at work and a mad dash to get out last night. One of the dealers at Southport casino told me it was an amazing service yesterday. She goes every year and is a staunch Blue. I've no doubt Rafa didn't want singling out for praise so as not to detract from the important issue of 96 brothers and sisters who should've come home. Thank you Rafa for showing you care. Happy Birthday too Big man!

My main hope is for the inquiry to finally show up what we've all been looking for and we can finally mourn the 96 with peace in our hearts and those responsible brought to justice at long last.

JUSTICE FOR THE 96!

YNWA Brothers and Sisters.

Well said mate. I've never got into the Rafa nonsense on here as he has gone now and I miss him but the king is here now. We just have to be thankful to a great man for fully understanding what this marvelous club of ours truly represents.

The bitchiness is sad but I reckon the lad regrets it terribly as he is a red after all.

Thank you Rafa and happy birthday mate.

I will hold my hand up and say that some of the comments I made in a few negs last night was a bit over the top.

But the reason was that I was jumped on from every corner over a comment made in the best intentions and after receiving info about it still being talked about many hours later in severalk threads and even on twitter it pissed me off.

So when I came home drunk late in the night I made a few comments I would not have made earlier or later today.

But saying that, I did not want this discussed on the forum, I did not want any attention as I felt that was all wrong, hence my first post on the subject.

If people have a problem with that please send me a PM as these comments on the forum does not contribute with anything at all.

I decided, maybe a few weeks ago now, to stop posting on threads "debating" Rafa as former manager of our football club... because I realised that these threads, without exception, always ended up with people, me included, saying some pretty nasty things to each other.

Having only last year become a Forumite on TLW, which I really enjoy being a part of, opting out of threads about Rafa the FOOTBALL manager will be one way of keeping TLW enjoyable for me (and others) by my not participating in awkward, uncomfortable, abusive conversations with fellow Reds supporters. And that remains my resolution.

But the subject of this thread is NOT FOOTBALL. It is about honouring the memory of people who died - tragically, unnecessarily, unjustly - following something they, and we that are left behind, have an unshakeable collective faith in... which just happens to be a FOOTBALL club. Our great football club.

And in respect of honouring that memory and the collective faith we all have in this football club, I think in this instance it has to be said, full marks and hats off to Rafael Benitez.

You've no room to talk about being petty and immature, remember what you negged me for you hypocritical clown?

As someone quite rightly has pointed out, I should use the ignore function, in this instance let me take the the chance to apologise for adding to the atmosphere currently stiffelling the site at present.

Thank you for posting that.

That is a very emotional clip.

I'm very much pro Rafa and would welcome him back if Kenny ever decided enough was enough and I hope that isn't for a long time.

It was a touching scene. Fair play. I welled up like I did when Bambi's mum died.

Regarding Code's posts I can see the point he is trying to make to be honest and IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH RAFA BENITEZ BEFORE I AM JUMPED ON. I would say the same if it was Kenny Dalglish as well.

I was at the service and the one thing that struck me was that Rafa's name got sang almost as much if not the same as the ''Justice for the 96 chant'' did. That speaks volumes in my opinion of how the emphasis in these services has changed over the past couple of years or so. Normally when I leave these services the Justice chant is the one getting sang as it should be. This year it was Rafa's name. I don't think Code, in fact I know he wasn't, was deliberately using this as a stick to beat Rafa with.

As I said I would say the same if it was Kennys name getting sang as well which proves Codes point to an extent about it becoming about individuals rather than the real reason for the service. Shit ain't right in my opinion no matter who it is when a persons name is being sang as much as the Justice request. I am sure Rafa felt touched by it and maybe a bit uncomfortable by it as no doubt Kenny did.

Think all that needs saying is Rafa was there as a fan who has done a huge amount in the last few years to bring more into the public light the campaign for justice.. not forgetting the £96,000 he donated.

As a manager he was stubborn but as a man no-one can tell me he didn't care.

Would anyone who hadn't seen him had known he was there If it wasn't for Margaret Aspinall? Doubtful , and he got upset after the crowd realised. Proper top fella. And no it wasn't stepping on Kennys toes or any of that bollocks because no one at all is hoping Kenny doesn't get the job and Rafa gets put in place, it would be madness.

I wonder if Rafa even got time to mourn his father while he was manager. He was such an intense 24 hour manager I bet so much got pushed to one side as he concentrated on football. He's probably more fragile now than he's been for years - for good and for bad. It was certainly a very moving moment. If he ever doubted he's 'family' he won't any more.

Class man.

As an aside I can understand Code and Juan's point of view on this, but it is entirely within Margaret Aspinall's right to thank him and if his name gets sung and people want to thank him on here as a result then so be it.

Seems to me that it's inevitable that there would be more friction caused by saying the day shouldn't be about him than simply staying away from the threads which are.

Regrettable that there should be ill feeling between Reds regarding this.

Been away all weekend so just seen this.

Very moving pictures. The man has done a hell of a lot for this club and the area and continues to do so. Margaret Aspinal and the rest of the HFSG are clearly touched by his work and donations and felt he deserved the recognition for that in public. He is a legend and I will always hold him in the highest esteem. His tears show a man who loves the club to the bone like we do, and the usual suspect making his usual spiteful bitter comments should be ignored because he's just showing himself up to be a tool.
