What did Dalglish win as a manager in 1985? What did Shankly win as a manager before coming to Liverpool? What did Pep Guardiola win as a manager before going to Barca?

Answer - nothing.

Shankly brought us from a lower league and built his team. Dalglish had the continuity of the Boot Room and Paisley. Guardiola progressed through the Barca system and knew club and players intimately.

There. Is. No. Comparison.

the people giving Fanchester city stick are pathetic

I don't get why he's on here dominating the discourse when he isn't a Liverpool fan and, hence, doesn't really understand the situation. I know people like smoke being blown up their arse, but there is a time and place, now is neither.

It's look at me and how fair minded I am, I'm a city fan but will compliment you and be really fair. I'm generally just a top lad, fair as fuck. Liverpool are really big. Don't you forget that. Did you kn...

You do understand that promoting ex-players to the position of manager is a bit different, don't you? Dalglish and guardiola were both legendary players of the clubs they managed so automatically commanded the respect of the fans and of the players. Do you understand the difference between them getting the jobs they got and us giving he job to martinez or are you a bit special? Shankly was a one off pal. The fact that you seem to be equating the likes of martinez with shanks is just fucking insulting.

And we had been in the 2nd divi for about 5 years when Shanks took over. Just a really shit comparison really.

Also, in response to buffalo boys ridiculous post, we were in the second division and a complete shambles when shankly took over, not one of the most famous and most successful clubs in world football as we are now. In short, what the fuck are you on about?

Last season we drew at home to Norwich, Swansea, Villa, lost to Wigan, West Brom and Fulham, scraped by QPR 1-0 and that's just our home form! Not mentioning our many shit performances and silly defeats. I was 13 in 1991 when Keny quit and he was my first Liverpool boss and we were a great team. I idolized him as much as anyone but this time round his results weren't up to it. When he was brought back as manager I was so happy. It felt like rewinding the clock 20 years but unfortunately he couldn't get the team performing. If it was any other manager then he would have gone so why should Kenny be kept on? Right now I think Martinez would do a nice job. He would get us playing a good passing game.

When Shankly came in 1959 he wasn't a very young manager and had been around a good few clubs without pulling up any trees. He was given a chance and a few quid and took us to success. It can happen.

The decision to offer Martinez an interview has, sadly, confirmed the suspiscions of many (not including me until today) that FSG have absolutely no idea whatsoever. I have always held the view that, whatever they did, it was part of some super-strategy, that only they could see, to get this club back on the road to greatness. These hyper-intelligent men of hedge funds and sports management knew the road to success - Monyeballs or otherwise. It had to be the only answer.

Shame on me. That is what I believed.

I'm gutted that Kenny has gone, not out of some sentimental sense of loyalty, but because I could see the team I have supported all of my life playing the sort of football I wanted to see it playing. And did we play, sometimes. He hadn't got it right but I could see enough to justify at least another years worth of patience (and at my age years are a bit more precious than to some of you younger people).

But that is all just emotional bullshit now. Lets look to the future and move forward.

And the choice of the great and the good that now control the club - appoint a manager who specialises in relegation dodging. I can only conclude that when Suarez, Reina, Skrtel amd Agger pack their respective bags and move to sunnier climes that his skills will be of great value this time next year. I am sure we will shout his names from the rafters as we score the last minute winner against Southampton that guarantees our Premiership survival in the penultimate game of the season. To be able to watch the last day of the season games with nothing better to do than focus on our chosen game of interest will be bliss - just like this year.

FSG will do their bit and ensure that the manager is armed with a £100m warchest (£20m plus proceeds from sales), probably on 30th August. But some finacial crisis or a loss of confidence will mean that the unspent cash won't be there in January.

Unless Kenny got the meeting seriously wrong in Boston this is possibly the dawn of some very dark days. FSG have no idea what they are doing. They cannot be taking any form of direction from anyone who has had any involvement in club football at the highest level. They are no better than H&G, they just have more money.

Despite all appearances my only conclusions is that hey are completely clueless

How hard is it to comprehend that Roberto Martinez is not our manager. There is a list of people. Martinez is on that list. Who knows how many people we have approached for an interview? It's only down to Whelan being a big-mouthed cunt that the twitter driven hype and rumour mills have exploded.

Be patient. FSG are not clueless.

True mate, it was pointed out earlia in thread that Whelan was on the phone to SSN within 40 minutes of getting the call from Liverpool, He could of kept this quiet theres no need to make it public knowledge.

The thing is though, if we look at the other 3 favirotes who people are putting money on. Rafa and AVB, both are not with a club, both dont have a contract so if we do make an approch it does not need to go through anyone first. We just go straight to the manager.

Martinez is a crazy option, he has done nothing of note problem is that will FSG listen to the fans. it was us who wanted kenny before Roy and now in their eyes it has not worked out. So why listen to us again?

Rafa is the sensible option i dont think he woul drequest any sort of sign on fee etc. With Rafa its just down to the fact how much control he wants with club as in my opinion Rafa will not work well with a DOF unless it was the likes of Kenny.

AVB is in my opinion a decent manager. he had a rough time at Chelsea but i think he is a class above Martinez but slightly below Rafa.

Fingers crossed we get somebody who the fans will get behind on the first game and can take us forward to were we belong.

How about Rafa, then?

Sacked in his first 2 jobs, relegated in his 3rd and had only scraped promotion in his 4th before being given the Valencia job (coming off 2 Champions League final appearances) amidst vehement opposition from their fans?

And we employed him AFTER he'd proven himself with 2 La Liga titles and a UEFA Cup win.

I admire your optimism, I really do.

I'm trying really hard to see the glass half full about the prospect of having Martinez as our manager but that's going to take some time I'm afraid.

Basically he'll have about 10 games to win us over before all hell breaks loose.

I actually feel a little bit sorry for him before he's even been given the nod.

I agree.

A deal could have been done with AVB or Rafa if they really wanted either of them.

The G&H/FSG comparison becomes greater as time goes by, apart from solvency. Absentee owners, no knowledge of the game,non-domicile Directors, weak hapless MD, erratic appointments, no stadium.

Because people are already writing him off and 10 games will be proof enough for them that he isn't up to the job.

Ah right.

I do wonder if he had a successful playing career whether or not his lack of managerial success would be an issue. I can understand the anxiety, we would be appointing on potential, but in our position I don't see any other choice.

It seems it will be either Martinez, Rodgers or AVB.

Depends entirely on who he played for!

But, if we can't attract the top managers - and I have no idea if we can or not - we will have to take a punt on potential as you say. Much like where we're at with players really.
