itunes connectivity issues...help required

Im having problems with my itunes, it wont let me update the programme or download any podcasts or songs. I just get a error msg saying the update server could not be contacted and to check my internet connection. Ive trawled around the menu's and cant find any option in which to change my connection settings. My internet connection is fine and this is the only programme im having any problems with.

 

If i delete the programme and re-install will i have to re sync all the tunes on my harddrive back to itunes, there must be a quicker way of doing this than playing them all individually (i have over 1200 songs), any hints and tips would be greatly appreciated.
