I was just writing a post making the exact same point, so I'll simply cut and paste what I was writing:

I blame VAR 100% for that red card. The referee had been having a good game up to that point, and anyone can make a mistake, but there's no excuse for not sending him to review it.

At pace (in real time) any ref can make a mistake but at the very least ask him to take another look on the screen
