That's only true if you're a hypocrite.

Aren't most people?

I don't think the joke is that funny, I think it's punching down and isn't that clever.

I've also, rightly, been conditioned to think that the subject of the holocaust is so horrific that it's not something you really joke about unless it's really tame and/or aimed at the perpetrators rather than the victims.

I've laughed at some really darkly humoured jokes on other subjects in the past though, his aids joke I found funny because it subverted my expectation of where the joke was going but it's still about a virus that's killed millions and millions of people, I think that probably makes me a hypocrite.

Jimmy carr trending on Twitter for this Holocaust “joke”
@jimmycarr 'No one ever wants to talk about the thousands of Gypsies killed by the nazis, because no one wants to talk about the positives'

I think that’s gone too far. He’s joking about 500,000 people, mainly women and young  children shot in Eastern Europe. Be interesting to see how Rachael Riley reacts to it.

He has done a holocaust joke before.

I find it a bit odd that him and frankie Boyle can both be very near the knuckle but they have completely different reputations.

Boyle is much worse in my opinion, because he frequently takes aim at named individuals, which basically constitutes bullying. I mean, what did Katie Price's disabled kid do to deserve to have the shit ripped out of him by Frankie Boyle? But he gets away with it, because he hates the Tories.

But he doesnt really get away with it as he was banished off the tele for about a decade.

He was also changed a lot now and he does a lot more political stuff now.

We saw him at the everyman and loads walked out..

I've seen jimmy Carr a few times and he can often be as controversial as frankie.

Fuck me, that's a world of wrong in one post.

You can, as you say, choose not to give a fuck when people other than yourself are attacked, dehumanised and victimised - even when the Government is in the process of passing laws to increase the already abhorrent discrimination against them. I mean, what's the worst that could happen?

It's not clear why you can understand one non-GRT group being offended, but you "don't get" non-Jews (including Gypsies?) being offended.

If you want to know why people should take offence at stuff that doesn't directly affect them, ask Pastor Niemoller. Basic human empathy is the stuff that makes life worth living.

When people call out racism - as they absolutely should, always and everywhere - you shouldn't assume that they're pretending to be offended, just for effect. (Think that one through. The suggestion is fucking stupid.) It's best to assume that they recognise that bigotry is dangerous and just plain wrong.

And I don't need anyone to tell jokes laughing at genocide for me to realise that genocide isn't fun.

I was talking about people like me and you Wolfie.

I should have elaborated a bit more on that particular point. And worded it far better.

It’s not hate speech.

I wish I had as little to worry about as you do.  Maybe then I could spend my days getting all uppity about words that have zero effect on mine or anyone else’s life.

It is hate speech.

Words lead to actions.

Pull your head out of your arse and learn something.
