Just watching Linda Ronstadt night on BBC2. Didn't know she was of Mexican heritage.

here she is in 1977. One of the worlds greatest ever vocalists covering one of the worlds greatest ever songwriters. Mad to think Buddy Holly had 20 top 10 hits yet was only 22 when he died. Rondstadt sings this beautifully, she really was a star.

I feel I really should hate Spotify, evil Swedish corporate minimum royalty paying algorithm twats. And yet it will recommend good stuff that I’ve never heard of before.

Recently I got Fine Anyway by 70s Lebanese singer Roger Fakhr.

It’s well nice. Sounds a bit like Rodriguez, maybe. Check it out:

Just watching that Friday night bbc prog on Rondstadt again. I've never paid her much attention before, not really my thing and a bit before my time but fuck me what a voice. I can see why she was the biggest female star of the 70s.

I love Little feat and Lowell George and here she is covering their song Willing for the Old Grey Whistle Test in 76. Andrew Gold is on guitar. She's boss.

"Give me weed, whites and wine and I'm willing".. Indeed.

Like I said I'd never really paid her much attention but that BBC thing on Friday night was fab and as you say she's got the most incredible voice.

It is a trucker anthem - you left out the trucker part.

On Ronstadt she also birthed the Eagles. So...

Ah..yeah I saw Glenn Fry and someone else from the Eagles in the doc. I'd have never have guessed she used to be managed by Frank Zappas manager.  It was all a little before my time, I enjoyed the bbc night devoted to her though. Lovely pure voice, i thought she also had great phrasing in the way she sung. She sounded better live than on record.

Bit of an understatement to say this fella could play.

I put this in the jazz thread last night.

Genuinely think he was the greatest living composer. Just a massive loss but we can be thankful he lived to 89 & was still contributing until very recently.

Ah sorry didn't see it. Yeah years ago i used to have that weather report album in the link above. I remember my mate gave it to me when we were both youths trying to learn instruments. My mate was a bass player and loved Jaco Pistourius (spelling). We used to watch the videos of him playing, looking like an apache Indian with his shirt off. Boss. I saw that post you put up a while back about a doc about his life. I still haven’t seen it yet, but it was sad how you said his life turned out considering the amount of talent he possessed.
