Shit songs - Peoples favourites.

Whenever I watch the tele or listen to the radio and something absolutely woeful comes on I always think that out there, somewhere, that tune will be someone's favourite tune of all time.

Pretty Green Eyes and Cascada spring to mind but it crosses the genres!

One of my mates personal favourites is that woeful Aerosmith tune of Armageddon, how shameful is that.

Any more you know of?!

Christ, R.E.M. are horrible. Shiney Prancing Student Gimps (as it should be called) is the most irritating song of all time, although the most pretentious song title of all time award belongs to their Sidewinder pile of nonsense.

Shiney Happy People is an awful song. The band themselves have disowned it and have moreorless refused to play it ever since it was released.

They are not horrible. The scope of their influence is immeasurable. Their success as a college band in the 1980s is unparalleled. I expect you've not listened to their IRS back catalogue? Murmur, Reckoning, Lifes Rich Pagaent and Document are all intoxicating and quite brilliant considering the short space of time in which they were recorded.

I don't particularly rate Accelerate, but they are a seminal band well worthy of the adulation they receive. They are one of the most important bands of the past thirty years.

Michael Stipe, as a lead singer is up there with Morrissey as one of the most influential and talented front men to exist... he is an articulate and interesting individual whose demeanour many have tried and failed to copy... in fact countless bands have adopted their style of jangly guitars, intricate arpeggios and rolling basslines along with ambiguous and emotional lyrics.

Shiney Happy People is shit, but any self respecting person with ears can deduce that.

Shiney Happy People blah blah.

I'm not insulting you by deleting your text but it was a long post. I disagree on shinny happy people. Kate Piersons vocals are the perfect foil for Stipes as can be found in Me in Honey which is my favouite REM song. Just lovely.

REM are a bit samey for me, they lack variety. I respect Stipe and really like quite a lot of the tunes but I have to admit that I think a lot of their stuff just sounds really undistinctive.
