He really has been poor hasn't he. What the hell has happened to him? He's never had the best first touch, but he ball control while running with the ball is just awful now. He's a shadow of the player he once was. You don't see him beating players anymore. He's only good for playing through balls for him to run on to. Apart from that he can't do fuck all.

 

He'll only score a lot of goals at the highest level if you build entire team around him. That's why he was only prolific at Anfield, because Rafa essentially emulated what Houllier did with Owen, albeit with a slightly more technical style of play.

 

When he doesn't have that luxury, he ends up getting exposed as one of the most one dimensional strikers in the game. His physical deterioration has really magnified that by a factor of ten.
