spot on. im guessing same thing happened with crouch as well, but as keane had only been here for six months and he was on a four or five year contract, we'd have had to pay him a fortune when he left.

Then you'd be wrong, Crouch was offered an improved and extended contract, he turned it down in and choose to move.

how much did we pay him off, we need the details

even if it was £5m, we still got £15m and a "good deal" according to Rafa who was happy with it

anyway, it doesn't change the fact that we have spent fuck all on players in 2 years and Bascombe is churning out glorified PR pieces on behalf of the yanks. sickening.

fair enough. that's why i said "im guessing". but im sure there's quite a few players who have been sold who didn't want to go that we would have had to cough up contract payments to. it all adds up. million here.... million there

We didn't force the player to leave, the contract was bought out by spurs, we didn't just tear it up. The player is owed nothing if he agrees to sign for another club, agreements can be made between the selling club and the player though to get the player to leave.

You lot just assume you know what's going on when infact you know fuck all.

Oh will you all shut the fuck up about Keane. It's been done to death.

I'm a little concerned with the stance Chris Bascome is now taking regarding the owners. He's really softened his line where they are concerned, and he must know that £20m figure includes renegotiating contracts and wages, and isn't a straight transfer fee. So why is he choosing to mislead fans who may not pay as much attention to what is happening as others.

since summer 2008 we have spent £3m NET on new players, during that period we've also had a £30m increase in domestic TV money AND 2 years worth of Champions League qualification (£45m+)

so where is the money going? to the banks and on the interest because it isnt going on players. write about that Bascombe, you cunt.

I think we had our normal budget last season, Benitez just cocked it up. This season its pretty obvious that 15-20m went missing, or they genuinely put the transfer and wages budgets into the same bracket which is dumb. Not to mention Benitez's proposed academy changes which probably cost a million or two in releasing old staff and bringing in new (I'm not sure how extensive it was).

30m per annum in TV money and CL for 2008 and 2009

that's £100 million. we managed to spend £3m net on players, so are you seriously telling me contracts and pay offs to staff have cost £97m?

No.

probably a third of that £97m has gone on contract renewals, the rest has gone to the banks and to pay the interest bill but don't expect to see that from Goebbels

What happens to the £20m per season (spits) if and when we fail to qualify for that CL that we are budgeting to qualify for as QF year in, year out? I reckon that's when the Leeds comparison becomes a reality and with clubs outside the top four currently trying to do all they can to muscle their way in to that elite, it shouldn't be brushed off with the ease that Chris implies in that report. City are going to push one of the current top four out of their assumed position, and I reckon that's more likely to be us or Arsenal than the Mancs or Chelsea.
