The best pound-for-pound attacking unit ever?

The Red Star team of the late 80's early 90's was exceptional.

Shame they didn't show it in the 1991 European Cup final. Instead they just sat back and played for penalties. As you say, they had some superb players. Dejan Savicevic was one of the world's best players around that time. A joy to watch.

For a country as small and unfashionable as Croatia, the team they had circa 1996-98 was absolutely phenomenal, especially their attackers... Lost narrowly to the eventual winners in both Euro 96 and France 98...

-------- Asanovic Boban -------

Stanic ---------------------- Jarni

------- Prosinecki ----------

------- Boksic ----- Suker -----------

It's like Romania playing with 7 Hagi's, Northern Ireland with 7 Best's, etc

Outstanding....

The similarity doesn't end there: none of those sides have ever won anything ever

I used to really love Boban.

Thought it was pound for pound - Brazil have got a population of 180 million odd to choose from.

Well suppose half that number if you exclude the birds

Pound for pound, Brazil 70's is still better.

Too young to have seen them - just.

First fotballing memories 1972 and by the time 74 World Cup had come around I think only Jairzinho and Rivelino were still in the starting 11.

Seem to recall Jairzinho had gotten fat and Rivelino had one of the finest porno muzzies ever seen.

I was only born in 1984, but I've watched that Brazil 70 video narrated by Fash the Bash about 150 times and during that tournament, that front line was unbelievable.

Then can I recommend you do a bit of digging and take a look at the dutch team of 74?

It was basically a hybrid of the Feyenoord team that won the European Cup in 70 and the Ajax team that won three successive European Cups 71 to 73.

And yeah Pele was ok I suppose but he'd be the first to admit he was no Maradona

Ajax 95?

Litmanen, Seedorf, Kluivert, Overmars, Davids, R De Boer, Rijkaard, Finidi George

they didnt cost much

I used to love catching Ajax on the CL highlights on ITV when they played at that wee shithole of a ground they had before the ArenA.

De Meer or something.

Litmanen was fucking mega then.
