Police On 'Derby' Game Songs

Just read on the Echo site that the police are going to making arrests at the Everton games for any 'offensive' chanting. They say that although none of the chants in the recent past have been racist or homophobic there is one particular chant/song that they will take action against. Any ideas what that might be?

"Everton everton.. everton..."

This isn't the first time action has been taken against them for their songs, several hundred were detained for mental health testing when they sang "we're by far the greatest team the world has ever seen" Since then it's been easier for them to sing their bile about us and of course "handball" and "penalty" but who could forget their favourite one "booooooo"

Talking to a mate who's a stoke fan and he was saying the stoke messageboards were full of suggestions of songs from blue noses (gerrard related songs)

I just couldn't be arsed.

I suppose it's a relief to have something to talk about on a forum for them, because they cannot talk about football.

Now although I find these sort of songs absolutely disgusting, the people who sing them I consider pondlife and would of course never dream of partaking in singing them, I don't see how singing a song about Gerrard's kid/Lescott's head/"Murderers" is in anyway deemed illegal and can lead to a conviction. I may be wrong as I don't profess to fully understand the law. But if it is breaking a law, which law is it?

I was at the Villa away game at the beginning of the season and was jokingly having a bit of banter with a friend, I mentioned the word "pornography", a copper overheard me and told me to "watch it or I'll nick you." For what exactly? The world's gone nuts.

I think the Police should spend the time following the PSO's arround they get some dogs abbuse i think its time common sense provailed people who isng these songs should just grow up and find another song to sing

I find it difficult to find support for police arresting Evertonians for singing songs when no one has faced charges for the death of 94 fans

If support for the former meant that we would see the same level of pursuit of justice for the latter they would have my full support

Agreed. The people who sing these distasteful songs are absolute twats and morons, and as you rightly pointed out, need to grow up. But half the time it's grown men singing them, especially when you go to the likes of Chelsea with there "Hillsborough is your history" song and they're all laughing and find it hilarious to lampoon the dead from a tragedy that was bearly even half a generation old (not that that should make a difference). But as much as it angers me and makes me sick to the bone I don't think it's breaking the law in any form.

It's funny that though, mate because the Bitters and the Stokies were kicking off when Everton played Stoke down there. So I sincerely doubt that the ones who actually go the game were giving them ideas of songs to sing against us about Gerrard. No disrespect to you or your mate whatsoever.

I don't know if I'm just blinkered but their songs about Gerrard / Murderers / Michael Shields etc seem to be directly sung to provoke a disturbance.

Our songs about Lescott / Neville are more tongue-in-cheek.

I can't say I've ever heard any racist or homophobic chants at the 25+ Derby's I've been too & doubt I'll hear any on Monday either.
