Outside of Babel v Kuyt I think the first choice team pick itself next season,

That's about it, though it will probably be put together in a 4-2-3-1. It might be that one of the CB's is dropped to put in a specialist right back, giving Rafa more attacking intent from that position.

 

I agree that it's a toss up between Babel and Kuyt, though if Babel ups his game he should start to win that battle as the season progresses, simply because he has more naturla talent. Then again, it is not all about that, and Dirk has a nice habit of being a man for the big occasion.

Dont think Carra will start right back. We have 3 right backs at the minute so I cant see them being happy having a centre back starting in the position they are fighting for.

 

Re read your post, and thats out strongest line up Nick, probably would play that against Man Utd and Chelsea.

Babel's better as a sub at the moment and Dirk's great in the biggest games. Look at the away CL game with Arsenal to see why Dirk should start ahead of Ryan. One of them was immense, the other looked awe struck and lost.

But Babel actually has the capacity to cause damage from the wide positions whereas Kuyt doesn't.

I took Rashid off ignore and saw that he said it was "nonsense", however we played something very similar at Rangers I believe and won 4-0 with Keane on the left (didn't see the match).

 

If we do play this I see Keane and Kuyt as interchangeable, and also Keane and Gerrard. I think we'll see a lot of movement in the three behind Torres if we play this formation.

I think Rafa is going to try out a few variations on the flanks and up front and will stick with what's probably working best.

 

If we've just spent £18-20m on Keane, he needs to be as close to Nando as possible, not stuck out on the wings.

Have we all forgotten that Rafa likes to rotate his players?

 

Fact is - apart from the defence (Rafa will have to choose carefully - if Skrtel plays the way he did towards the end of the season, Carra might be struggling for his place), the players will ALL get shouts, and in different roles as well, and probably different formations.

 

I wonder if Arbeloa can be consistent enough to make that RB spot his own. Think probably not. One assumes (hopes) Dossena will be god enough to be a regular LB - although I doubt Aurelio is going to warm the bench all season. Centre backs I imagine Rafa will decide on his first choice pairing.

 

If it's a 4-4-2, which makes a HELL of a lot more sense this season with Keane, then it kinda picks itself - Keane and Torres up front, the "super 3" plus a winger (pick one from Pennant/Yossi/Kuyt/Babel).

 

If it's 4-2-3-1, still our best formation in my opinion, then it's pretty much the same as last season. Kuyt/Gerrard/Babel as the 3, and give Keane a rest.

 

But let's fact it, we don't have a "first choice" XI.

That would be our strongest starting lineup, If we sign Barry and sell both Finnan and Alonso.

 

We have good strength in depth and i'm sure over the course of the season the likes of Benayoun and Babel will get regular runs in the team, in place of either Kuyt,Keane or Gerrard, if Injured. I also think Keane may start up front from time to time, If Torres needs a rest.
