How many comical defensive displays and losses do we reckon it’s going to take before Klopp finally fucks this formation/tactic off.  We aren’t getting anywhere near winning the league so it’s possible if it takes him around the 20 games in mark we could still be in with a shout of champions league places.  It’s like he’s managing us with a blindfold on.

We are a defensive mess and in games where teams always crowd out the middle of the pitch Trent doesn’t do a tap in there anyway.  He doesn’t get on the ball enough and when he does he’s got no option to his right.  It’s a complete joke how obvious the problems are playing with this daft tactic.

The club is in absolute state on and off the pitch at the moment and it’s difficult to see the season being any better than last year.

The way Arsenal and the Abu Dhabi oilers play this system is by keeping 5 at the back at all times. 3 of the 4 defenders stay put with the wandering defender and their "6". The attack is done through the front 5 then.

We're still giving robbo licence to roam leaving us with the exact problem we had all of last season and we don't have enough players with the "oh fuck the house is on fire" attitude.

We've played on a knife edge throughout klopps tenure and it's gotten even worse now that we haven't the personnel to play that way at the moment.

Their goal was awful from our point of view. A simple ball where the player wasn't under pressure and we pushed up as if he was.

Basic errors that'll get punished by all premier league teams.

It isn't hard to see us being a very good side....but then it is equally as easy to see what we are missing to be one.

Get it sorted, Liverpool.

We're are going to concede way too many goals. It reeks of setting up to go gung ho attack but conceding first and then struggling like fuck to break down sides. We leave way to many spaces in defence to the point its scary how we think its an acceptable risk. I dont know how Klopp can watch us and think yeah I like the press and transitions so the obscenely bad defensive set up doesn't matter.

Its a friendly I'm being very overly critical but last seasons repetitive mistakes game after game and just ignoring them haunts me still, maybe not even ignoring them but persisting hoping something will change. The Season we once again didn't do enough in the transfer window, klopp played Fabinho and Henderson in defence when even the dumbest amongst us was screaming for him to just put defenders in defence and stop weakening the midfield in the process but he just kept on and eventually even admitted he should of done exactly that.

I dont want players shoe horned into positions, the club isn't some broke third tier side that has to make do.

If we want to continue with this system, Robertson needs to be benched and a left sided centre half needs to come in. That would really solidify the back line.

Or bin it, go back to what made us great under Klopp. We don't need Trent's creativity in the midfield. We have macca and Dom for that now.

Didnt watch any of our previous preseason matches, and impression after this first half is we’re very good going forwards. Expected that, but we’ve looked slightly better than I expected.

Unfortunatly it’s the same defensively, expected us to be weak and we’ve been really poor, far worse than I feared. Pressing has been pretty good actually, it’s the shape, positioning and awareness at the back that seems totally fucked. If anyone think a quality DM, which we desperately need to add to the squad of course, alone will fix this then you’ll be disappointed. This isn’t about individual quality, it’s about structure, tactics and awareness.

Thought Mac Allister looked absolutely brilliant, and can clearly play DM as well. Very good forward passing and decision making, good in the press and a few very tackles. Looks a very good addition to the squad, more of those please.

There is a big inbalance between how many defensive minded players with defensive qualities and attack minded players we have.

We have to address that - we surely will.

If we don't then we have to set up differently....fact we keep setting up as we do suggest we intend on sticking with this way of playing - so i assume we'll add the players needed to make it work properly.

To not do so would be nuts.

Think this is a very good point. The combination of Trent as the inverted full back, second 6 or whatever it’s called and Robertson at LB doesnt look good at all. That said, the issues at the back is clearly not about individual players alone, it’s about structure. Their keeper almost got an assist here now, we’re a complete mess at the back, and Van Dijk’s expression on a couple of occasions confirms he knows it too.
