Liverpool v Athletic Bilbao

Liked this from a write up of todays game:

It’s a familiar narrative but the contrary nature of Liverpool’s back and forward line is, well, backwards and forward.

On the attack, the Reds surge with authority and aggression, speed and skill because ultimately they know what they’re doing going forward.

But defensively, it’s a complete juxtaposition. Much like last season, Dejan Lovren was frequently caught out of position and playing catch up to make amends, when he didn’t Bilbao pounced as was the case with their equaliser.

It’s not just Lovren, though, the whole back line lacks urgency, they are blind to danger until it smacks them in the face, unless, of course, they are creating the trouble for themselves with careless passing.

It’s mystifying that they have failed to repair the one issue which is so blindingly obvious. Signing Virgil van Dijk from Southampton could be their last acquisition of the summer and it would certainly represent their most important.

I'm not sure TAA's rise to first choice RB will be that smooth. There's a player there, but he's getting hyped a bit too much for my liking. He's still positionally naive and will get ripped to shreds a few times if thrown in at the deep end. A settled midfield and CB partnership would help him mind.

Klopp already said he can't defend just last week.

"As long as he defends like a kid and attacks like man, then you have only half of this amazing talent."

OK so you want to use a single quote to try and prove your point but where in that quote does he say TAA cant defend as you previously stated?

Really? What does "defending like a kid" imply Jimmy? Is it reasonable to assume that Klopp doesn't think that Trent can be relied on defensively?

It doesnt suggest he 'cannot defend' to me. It suggests as Klopp has said that he needs to improve that side of his game.

What the fuck are you on about? What are you even debating?

What you appear to have difficulty comprehending is this; Klopp said TAA needs to improve his defending not, that he cannot defend as you state.

If Klopp considered he 'couldnt defend' as you continually iterate, he wouldnt play him.

our defence nicely summed up in one line.
