Maybe one for the ' Shitness of Football ' thread but Paul Cook used to be on a YTS ( ask your dad ) scheme in the mid-1980's when he was with Wigan ( I think ) as an apprentice.

All of the various trainees on the scheme who lived in Kirkby ( Mainly apprentice factory workers from AC Delco & wherever) used to have to come in to our bank branch on the Friday, sign a chitty , get their name ticked off a list and were given £27.50 in an envelope ( I think it was £10 more than the dole money at the time ).

Other than the Academy being based in Kirkby there doesn't seem to be much correlation with the way trainees are looked after these days.

Is it just me, or has every single FA Cup game been shite this season? You getmore entertainment in the League Cup or the group stage of the Europa League. VAR is not a factor.

Speaking of, I don't know if they are using VAR in this game but if Vardy scores thanks to the intervention of the technology, how long before somebody calls him VARdy?

Going to Anzhi is what made him a mercenary in the first place. They spent a shitload on players like Willian, Eto'o and Zhirkov before having a fire sale a year or two later when their billionaire owner pulled the plug on the financing.
