Radio City Sport saying that Ian Ayre has said its was Salahs choice not to come to liverpool and they tried as much as they could to bring him here.

Edit. the fast reply for some reason has changed my font.

Not surprised. i can imagine Ayre getting of the phone to him while discussions were going on and the accidentally ringing him in his pocket while talking to someone about the fact he didn't have a clue who Salah is. Or even better/worse, coming out with loads of egypt puns.

Liverpool ultimately missed out on signing Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah because he did not want to come to Anfield, according to the club’s managing director Ian Ayre.

Ian Ayre has revealed the reasons behind Mohamed Salah's eventual move to Chelsea.

Salah, 21, was in negotiations over a move to Merseyside when Chelsea nipped in to sign him in an 11 million pounds deal, which was concluded on Sunday.

Liverpool’s American owners Fenway Sports Group have come in for criticism over the failure to sign Salah, amid suggestions that the club were unwilling to try to beat Chelsea’s bid. But Ayre insists that there is the financial muscle to compete at the top end of the Premier League, pointing to a new deal signed with Garuda Indonesia.

Indonesia’s national airline has become Liverpool’s official training kit partner in a two-year deal announced on Monday, and scheduled to kick in from June. And Ayre said: “We haven’t been held back from concluding a deal by finances. The player decided he didn’t want to come to Liverpool.

“We will always compete for players and we know how far we are prepared to go. That’s something Brendan Rodgers, myself and the other people involved in pursuing transfers discuss openly.

“We won’t overpay for players, but when the right player is available for the right deal and wants to come here, they will come here. When it comes to transfers, you win some and you lose some, but it won’t be for a lack of ambition on our part.”

Ayre also said that the club are pushing on with negotiations to buy up and clear houses in the immediate vicinity of Anfield in order to clear the way for a stadium expansion.

Liverpool want to extend the Main Stand and Anfield Road End in order to increase capacity -- a move that the club confirmed in October 2012 -- but the managing director declined to put a timescale on when building work might start.

He said: “There are two or three hurdles we have to get over. The first is property, and we are making strides on that front. The second step is getting planning permission, and the third is construction.

“If we get over each of those hurdles, we have the certainty to move things forward. What we don’t want to do is start promising things we can’t deliver, but we’re very pleased with the progress we’re making.”

a slightly different take - some new bits and some repetition:

Managing director Ian Ayre insists Liverpool will not pay over the odds on inflated transfer fees but claims they can compete in the market.

Last week Egypt international Mohamed Salah, tracked for several months by the Reds and considered their primary January target, opted for a move to Chelsea after the Stamford Bridge side reportedly offered more money both in terms of transfer fee and wages.

"We haven't been held back from completing a deal, the player has decided he doesn't want to come to Liverpool," said the managing director as he announced a deal with Garuda Indonesia, who two years ago became the club's global official airline, as their first official training kit sponsor.

"We will always compete and know the value of a player and how far we are prepared to go.

"That is something myself and the people involved in that discuss regularly and we won't over pay but when the right player is available and wants to be at Liverpool they will be here and our success previously shows that.

"There is no one not here because we didn't do what we needed to do.

"We will win some and lose some, that is the case in every transfer window."

The deal with Garuda is the fourth signed by Liverpool this month, with big names like Vauxhall and Dunkin' Donuts already signed up.

Ayre argued commercially they were at the top of the game and hoped with Champions League football and a revamped stadium they would be even closer to matching their big-spending rivals.

"I am not talking about the value but it (the new deal) is competitive, it is important and it is a very large contribution (to Liverpool's commercial revenue)," he added.

"The club is in a very good place. For those of us with good memories we know we had nearly £300million of debt three and a bit years ago and we've worked hard to chip away at that.

"The club is sustainable and in a position to invest in the transfer market."

Ayre spoke positively about plans to revamp Anfield.

He said: "There are two or three hurdles; the main one is property (houses surrounding the ground) and we are making huge strides on that and hope to be able to close that out reasonably soon and then it is planning and construction.

"What we don't want to do is promise something we can't deliver so we will hold all our cards until we can deliver something."

Annoying. We're one of a bunch. They'll want to play for Liverpool if you agree a fee with their club and pay the player enough money. Anything else is pure romanticism.

I think everyone should have a zen like moment, have a drink, heck have a few, make love to a beautiful woman, and just when you are at the height of being blissful come back on here....get mad that we have not signed anyone yet.

Maybe this will help with the mood:

I do find these types of quotes weird. Pay and they will come. I doubt there are that many out there who have a dream to pay for a particular club anymore!

Of course Mr Ayre. Footballers are notoriously altruistic. They very rarely care about money and just sign for teams to fulfil lifelong dreams.

Ask Aguero and the like about his dreams of putting on the sky blue of City.

Treating us like fucking mongs as usual. Cash wins titles not desire. Sad as it is.
