Liberal Democrats say ‘a wind of political change appears to be blowing through Teignbridge’ after winning two by-elections on Thursday night.

 

By-elections were called in Dawlish and Chudleigh following the resignation of Cllr Graham Price and Cllr Doug Hellier Laing – the latter prior to his conviction for wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm when he hit his wife on the head with a mallet and was jailed for three years.

We all know that council elections are small fry and their results don't necessarily translate into the political big league, general election constituency votes.

 

Still, when speaking from the perspective of someone who polled less than triple figures, I guess you could view such an unimportant result as "stunning"

Fucking brilliant.  Every word of it reads like a spoof.

 

Still, fair play to Lorraine from Chudleigh in securing a stunning 11-vote majority.  The winds of change are clearly blowing their way.  Today Dawlish and Chudlegh; tomorrow the whole of Teignmouth itself.  After that, who knows or dares to dream? Maybe they could seize control of all of South-West Devon.

An interesting read. Particularly the bit where she outlines the effects that Thatcherism and her policies had on her local community and are are diametrically opposite to what she stands for herself.

 

It looks like a willingness to abandon one's dignity and morality to suck up to the Tories also extends to the latest generation of desperately power hungry at all costs Lib Dem MP's.

I don't know how sincere she is her claim that a Thatcher statue is needed to strike a blow against sexism, but I can't help feeling that that argument is compromised by choosing to publish it alongside the Mail's "sidebar of shame".  (Not that it was a particularly convincing argument in the first place.)
