Whilst I'd love to see a quality DM signed this january in reality it's unlikely to happen.I don't see any problem with Allen playing in Lucas' role. Rodgers has gone on record that he doesn't want a Mascherano type ball winner or destroyer or whatever you want to call it so unless does a u-turn I can't see it.

What I'm worried about is repeating the 2 in the middle Gerrard Hendo 1st half Villa set up against another half decent counter attacking side or Allen getting injured

Agree with all that. Also worried that there's no clear strong alternative formation-wise if Allen's also out or for whatever reason.

Except it was Lucas who made the change, not Benitez.  Lucas decided the only way he was going to successfully adapt to england and liverpool was as a DM.  And his manager supported him.  He's discussed it at quite some length.

So take off the kufiya . . .

I just wear berets or bandanas.  Sure it's a two way street between a player and a manager, but would it be news to suggest that Benitez played people where they did not really want to play, but where they were good for the team (Gerrard, Carragher, etc.) ?

Anyway, I hope he comes back, again, plays for us a long time, but I see his future in Spain or Italy.

Of course it's right to say benitez played players where he wanted. There was more than enough whining and briefing the press to know that for the truth. It's just that Lucas made it clear it was his decision. It surprised me to be honest, I wouldn't have thought a control-freak like benitez would have given that much latitude, I assumed he'd be micro-managing Lucas' adaptation. Just goes to show . . .
