I’ve not watched any of the Rebels cartoons etc, I’m struggling to work out how Ashoka fits into it all.

Madolorian and Boba Fett are set after ROTJ, so why isn’t she in the original films? Or referenced in episodes 7-9?

Any assistance would be welcome!

Spoilers for anyone planning on catching up.

She's Anakin's padawan during the Clone Wars, set between Ep2 & Ep3, but leaves the Jedi order prior to the start of Ep3 so doesn't learn of Anakins fate.

She reappears during Rebels which is set 5 years before 'A New Hope', as an agent (Fulcrum)  for the fledgling rebellion and crosses paths with Kanan Jarrus (young Jedi who survived order 66) and Ezra Bridger (force sensitive street kid) who are part of a rebellion group (including a Mandalorian called Sabine Wren) being hunted by Thrawn, Vader and The Inquisitors over the shows run.

She helps Kanan and Ezra fight Vader at which point she learns that he's Anakin and the outcome of the fight is left open for interpretation as only Vader is seen leaving the area where they fought.

At the end of Rebels Kanan is killed and Ezra sacrifices himself to save his friends taking Thrawn with with him (Space whales, hyper space, it's a whole weird thing).

The very last episode of Rebels has an epilogue voiced by Sabine Wren where she explains what happened immediately after the battle of Endor and how she now has to find Ezra at which point Ashoka turns up and they go off to search for him.

When Ashoka shows up in the Mandalorian she mentions Thrawn in her fight with the Magistrate and Sabine has been cast for a while in the upcoming Ashoka show so it was only a matter of time before Ezra's casting happened.

Ashoka as a character had a bumpy start and was pretty hated in the early days but has become one of the best loved non-feature film characters in Star Wars cannon.

Her not being known throughout the main films is never touched on but the assumption is always that Order 66 would have meant nobody knew who was alive or dead unless they ran into them so while she was often seen with the likes of Obi Wan, Anakin and Yoda during clone wars her disappearance and then order 66 would have meant she was presumed dead.

TV shows will be the place where lots of these characters who were big in the animated side of Star Wars will make the jump into live action so Sabine, Ezra and Grand Admiral Thrawn will join the likes of Ashoka, Cad Bain, Saw Gerrera, Krrsantan, the Inquisitors, Bo Katan and the Death Watch.

Watch The Clone Wars and Rebels. That’s all the assistance you need. She’s quite a significant figure (since the introduction of Clone Wars animation series). You will also get to see loads of Mr Cad Bane.

Rebels is an easy watch it's short and not many seasons, Clone Wars can be really rough though.

Especially the first few season before the tone changes, there's probably a website somewhere that can tell you which story arcs you should watch to get a feel for certain characters because you don't want to watch it all.

Disney+ have the essential episode category which will shorten it down even more. I’d still recommend all of The Clone Wars as it brings the all context together that the prequels needed.

She’s an amazing character as well, and it’s a shame that she came about after the prequels and not as part of the original idea. She is a Filoni creation to be fair.

Christ, Andor is a bit bloody good. Gripping, thrilling and emotional, plus shot brilliantly.

The end of episode 3 was simply sublime.

Very unexpected, completely different to the tone of Book of Boba and Kenobi and I’m thankful for that. Very much less comedy and more of a gritty drama so far.

(bonus points for having Trevor from Eastenders)

I enjoyed Andor but again, that was the first 30 mins of a movie, not 100 mins of a to show.

Yeah that probably played into the decision to release the first 3, the first episode has a really abrupt ending, wonder what the reaction would be if you had to wait a week following that.

If you like Rogue One then you'll like this.

I enjoyed it, I think some of the urgency of these shows are lost because of the extended run time.

It's not a specific criticism of Andor, I've found all the Marvel / Star Wars shows the same - 40% killer, 60% filler. Which is a shame, as there have been some great stories, which would have made great straight to Disney Plus films.

The guy who chopped up Obi-Wan Kenobi into 2.5 hours had the right idea.

The star and showrunner have already espoused the usual "our show is really a 12 hour movie" bollocks, like they're embarrassed to be making a TV show. It's tiresome from so many show creators these days. If you want to make a film that bad then do it, don't waste everyone's time with TV show filler around your already written film script.

Watched the first 2 eps last night and the Picard/Discovery warning lights went off with the brothels and swearing. Let's not forget that this is meant to be Star Wars, not Blade Runner. Swearing and sex does not equal mature and gritty. Just like it didn't in video games in the early 00s.

As said above, the first 2 eps moved glacially slow and both ended abruptly because it's clearly a movie script chopped up and there's no natural story ends like in an actual TV show.

Not terrible and it's got plenty of episodes to fix some of the problems.

We've had crucifixion, killing kids and mutilating innocent civilians, a brothel (which to be fair was empty other than a server, two guards and a hologram) and a bit of swearing isn't too gratuitous yet but it depends how it progresses and how much they lean on that kind of thing.

That post Brothel scene in the alley was a nice way of showing where he is now compared to where he is at the start of Rogue one in a similar scenario.

Nice to get away from sandy planets as well, need to see more Fallen Order style junk planets and grimy cities.
