Would Star Wars exist without Star Trek?

Obviously I'm not going down geek central to find the answer in the Mr TK's above link.

I know its only a fairytale in the sky followed by 3 awful SGtodeathed kids films but Star Wars 1-3 was very well made and enjoyed by us kids. But was it good SciFi? Not really, whereas Star Trek had the room for good scifi tales as it was a serial and could change its story each week. I'm not talking about the films as theyre hardly memorable but the millions of episodes have included some very good stories.

I'm no Trekkie but comparing Trek to Wars isnt simple. Anyway I prefer BG.

You should read some of that thread. They go in to lots of detail about the weapons available to each "universe" and the likely outcome of epic battles.
