I know i am going against the flow, even Carra, but it doesn't bother me in the slightest what he did and I think it is wrong for this sort of thing to be clamped down on.

I don't think it came across as completely for those watching on the box as it did to those in the ground. When I've spoken to mates that weren't there, they couldn't see what the fuss was all about- and the sky footage really doesn't do his antics justice.

Furious Sir Alex Ferguson has blasted the Football Association's compliance unit and claimed Gary Neville has only been landed with an improper conduct charge because he is a Manchester United player.

Neville has been given until February 10 to respond after the FA decided to take action over the veteran full-back's wild celebrations at Rio Ferdinand's late winner against Liverpool on Sunday.

The Red Devils captain raced 40 yards towards the corner of the pitch where the Liverpool fans were congregated before pumping his fists in an exaggerated manner and then kissing his badge.

Greater Manchester Police expressed their concerns at the incident and with referee Mike Riley confirming he would have booked Neville had he seen the celebration when it happened, the FA felt compelled to act.

Although the England star, who has vehemently defended his actions, is only likely to receive a fine and a warning about his future conduct, Ferguson is fuming, claiming Neville is being tried by the media and singled out for special treatment purely because he is a United man.

And, to provide evidence for his claims, Ferguson cited the examples of Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher during the Merseyside derby on December 28, and Robbie Fowler's reminder to United fans of Liverpool's five European Cup wins at Eastlands earlier this month.

"Absolutely no chance," was Ferguson's blunt response when he was asked if the FA would have launched the charge had Neville played for a side other than Manchester United.

"Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher ran the full length of the field with their fists raised at the Everton fans recently and not a word was said.

"At Manchester City, Robbie Fowler ran past our fans showing five fingers, our fans surged to the front and the stewards had real trouble dealing with them and not a word was said then either.

"The FA compliance office only reacts when the press writes it. That is a fact and it can't be right.

"You cannot be running a proper compliance office if it only reacts to what the press say. What are they doing during the week? Does nobody study videos, only read the papers. It is a problem.

"In terms of Gary, all we have seen him doing is celebrating. To whom, there is no evidence, so I think the FA have a hard case to prove."

Did they? I hope he can back up those claims because all I remember is Gerrard giving a fist up to the Everton fans when Cisse scored and thats only because he was right near the goal anyway.

If you were there you would think differently mate, I wasn't but I was fuming in 1999 when he did it.......I am quite a placid person but if I'd been front row I'd have been trying to get on the pitch. I can tollerate goading rival fans, but what he does goes beyond that.......

Look at his gorilla-wank-style celebration. He’d just hugged Wayne Rooney and was obviously sexually aroused. He was too embarrassed to show his team mates he had a hard-on, and run to us for protection.

We’ve all had an erection on an embarrassing moment – Give the lad a break!
