I've always thought Carragher was a very limited player who just happened to be an excellent defender, which is why I never liked him at right back and always hoped he would be moved back to the centre.

 

In a sense though, I think I was wrong. He's a much better technical player than most people have ever given him credit for (Dave U and a few others apart), if the start of this season is anything to go by. Whether he can maintain that form only time will tell, but right now he looks to me like the best central defender in the league behind Campbell and Ferdinand.

 

For the record though I still think Hyypia is awesome and strangely underrated by some. I never understood why people thought Henchoz was better. Oh well.

They are a brilliant combination, silk and steel, which is why Sami is the player we need to replace. In Carra, we've got the steel we need at the heart of our defence; we now need the silk to complement him. Who that will be, without paying an obscene amount of money, only Rafa knows; but we need him soon. I can't see us getting away with playing so high up the pitch for much longer if we don't add some serious pace at the back.
