Grand National 2018/Aintree meeting

Recommended Posts

Had a 3 x £5 double & £5 treble on Terrefort, Ultragold & Mercy Mercy Me.

Already got £225 (  Ultragold only 11/1 not like JC got ) but sweating on £3k+ with the last one.

Wish me luck chaps , only really do Cheltenham & Aintree on the horses and while happy enough with the £225 this could be by miles my biggest ever win.

J, are you able to give me the name of a long shot/shots - at around 20s - that has/have a plausible outside chance of winning the National? Cheers.

CT, anyone else?

Don’t know that much about horse racing mate but what I do know is your best off picking by name of some form of randomness because it’s impossible to call, my grandad was a massive horse racing gambler and he never bet on it because as he said “there’s no skill to the national just luck”.

No ladies day pics this year?

I just spent five minutes copying and pasting a few over but then the site kicked me out and I can’t be fucked doing it again. Blame Dave.

I think you’ve got me confused with someone else, mate. I’m woeful when it comes to choosing horses. I’ll pick a couple at 33/1 or higher and hope for the best.

Fair enough.  I guess I've always suspected as much (or little) in the National.

It was perhaps a silly question, on reflection.

Yes, think I'll do similar.

I'm not sure I agree that any horse can win the National. You can apply a few factors and rule out anything that's a bad jumper or hasn't previously stayed over a distance in excess of 3 miles. Although you'll still get the odd result that bucks the trends.

Since they made the course safer, while a good jumper is still required, previous experience of the National fences doesn't strike me as being as important a factor as it once was.

It's more of race where you can pick ones to run well, with conditions to suit and obviously barring accidents like being brought down, since the modifications as opposed to the lottery it once was some years ago.

Sticking with Seeyouatmidnight and maybe small ew's on Houblon Des Obeaux, Vicente and Final Nudge maybe.

I'm sure the lady on the racing coverage said as it went off that 6 of the last 10 winners have been 20's or over , so it's still a bit of a pinstickers race & also you have no idea what fiddles trainers are pulling at small meetings and just looking to ambush the National at higher prices.
