Players like Carroll are on at least 100k a week, Sterling is better then a lot of players getting that is he supposed to not push for what he can get just because he is young or came through the youth team?

Our two probably biggest legends of recent times in Gerrard and carra rejected offers and pushed for what they thought they were worth, sterling is entitled to do the same.

hurrah for modern footy.

just give him the extra 30k a week or whatever the fuck he wants. We'll sell him in a year or two anyway when we get an offer that will pay for another 50 corporate boxes. Or something.

Shame really as for the last few months he has looked like the only one on the pitch whose ever seen a football before.

It is "agent talk". No it is not.

His agent would not go and tell the papers that his client is unhappy with a contract offer, so he can let the Torygraph run a story "Winger risks sparking Liverpool fans' fury".

That's Ayre talk.

His agent would be calling City, Chelsea, Barcelona et al instead...

If you read the quotes they appear to be coming from the player's side. Whether that's his agent or mum, who knows. I dont think the club would say the offer is “nowhere near acceptable.” That's a statement made by someone receiving an offer.

hes in a strong position. we re shit and a happy sterling playing at the top of his game could carry us.

hes been our best player this season and is probably our prize asset at the minute.

depends how much he wants to be here and how much club want him.

im sure he ll have a minimum release fee inserted in any new contract anyway.

It doesn't matter what the figure is, it's always about his 'worth' to the club.

When you take a job for 20K and you're happy, then there's no problem. The moment you discover the guy next to you gets 30K, something inside you usually changes.

- some guys will go ape shit

- some guys will stay 'happy' with the deal they got, but they'll still think the firm values them less than the other guy.

- When it comes to pay rise time, or there's any criticism of your pay rise, you are almost certain to mention the guy on 30K and use it to defend yourself.

Sterling's always going to look at who has been brought in, and for what money, and measure his own worth relative to them. He'll also look at other young players moving to other clubs and if they are getting 100K a week, he's going to measure himself against that.

And once he thinks Liverpool are taking advantage of him, the relationship sours.

Of course 70K is more than enough for any of us. It's enough for him too, but if he doesn't believe it's enough, there's a problem. Such is the human condition.

I find it astonishing that Liverpool fans are giving this kid shit.

Yep, the starting point for it is invariably that he's not in the very best class, not Fowler or Owen etc. While he could do better with some easyish chances it's a fucking weird assessment that he's ineffective, he scored 9 goals last season mainly from midfield, aged 19. That is superb. It's unfair to can him for not carrying a shite team.

This. I've said it frequently. The final amount will be about what he considers he's worth.

Im not sure why people thinks its ayre speak or agent speak. It doesnt really matter. All that matters is that an agreeable figure is reached.

If it isnt, he'll be on his way as the club would look to get a sizeable fee for him.

If someone wants to play 40+ million for him i'd be happy to sell him. It is inevitable he is going to pull the cunt with us sooner or later. he isn't that good anyway. Plus his haircut is shit.

Yep, the Shaun Wright Phillips twat.

£40m would buy Quintero, Berahino and steal another Stwrling from another QPR.

To say he's nowhere near as good is pretty laughable. Fowler and Owen were fucking brilliant at his age and Sterling isn't as good as them but I don't think the league was as strong as it is now either. To say he's nowhere near them is a joke though. Sterling would have ripped the arsehole out of this league back in the 90's. Fowler and Owen were prolific goal scorers. Sterling is quite clearly a winger but a modern day one in terms of his versatility, For his age he's on a level with McManaman for example.

So to recap:

(1) you agree Sterling isn't as good

(2) but to say 'nowhere near' as good is 'laughable' and a 'joke'?. What if I said simply 'not in the least bit as good'?
