It's interesting though that for a city with a rep for being funny, which is well-earned judging by some of the shit I've heard out of old fellas in pubs and social clubs that's had me in bulk, we don't produce that many genuinely funny comedians. Bombed our chippies - and so forth.

Ken Dodd was a comedy genius, up there with the very best, by and large though it's been poor. The city doesn't and didn't seem to have any kind of comedy scene either, save for the odd open mic night, certainly no real professional comedy clubs like you get in Manchester.

I was talking to someone on a FB site  my local area one, about years ago there was a band playing everywhere at one time whether that would be a C&W one, Joe Rogers and Harry Chambers for example or your standard rock band, all mostly good though some where very good like Ossie U, places like the Atlantic for instance but that's all changed now and you would have to go to town I suppose to see a local band.

His one to one interviews a few years back were quite good , he actually let the other person speak for a bit and because it was a one to one it wasn't people all trying to out-funny each other like Norton and Ross etc. Quite interesting interviewees as well.

From memory I saw him with Corbyn , Prof. Brian Cox and Craig Charles

He did a very good documentary which was on the telly last year where he was involved with transporting two captive Beluga whales in China and transporting them to I think it was Iceland, where they were released into the sea.

I can't remember exactly what it was called but it was in 2 or 3 parts and was a brilliant piece of telly.

Well worth a watch if you can find it.

Haha, that wouldn't have been far from it minus the purple bin bit.

It was bloody good though to be fair.
