Under 20 South American Cup

So, Insua has gone off to this tournament with Rafa's blessing, despite him pushing himself into pole position for the left-back birth, and leaving us with only 2 left backs, one made from China and the other the size of China. Regardless, I'm sure we all wish him the best of luck.

I suspect other clubs will stand to lose their youngsters as well. Oh, wait, hang on...what's this?

Di Santo to remain with Chelsea - Yahoo! Eurosport UK

Chelsea forward Franco Di Santo has confirmed he will not play for Argentina in the Under-20 South American Championship in Venezuela.Despite being included in Sergio Batista's squad for the tournament, which gets under way on January 19, the 19-year-old attacker revealed he has not been given permission to play by Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari.

"Scolari already told me he will not let me go to the South American cup. He said there are too many injured forwards and he needs me here," Di Santo told TyC Sports.

"He explained to me he only has three strikers to count on, (Didier) Drogba, (Nicolas) Anelka and me. He wants me here."

However, Batista, who led the Argentina Under-23 side to Olympic gold in Beijing, is hoping FIFA will be sympathetic in their attempts to have Di Santo and Almeria striker Pablo Piatti released for the tournament.

"We have to be patient because they are two important players for us," he said.

"Julio (Grondona, Argentina FA president and FIFA vice president) is going to talk with FIFA and we expect to count on them."

So, FIFA, it's OK for us to be left short for cover, but not Chelsea? Come on, pull your thumb out of your arse for a change!

We've been way too nice here. Insua went away for the last U-20 tournament and Mascherano played in the Olympics so you would have thought we would put our foot down this time but no we let Argentina get away with it again.

Isn't part of the reason Insua has gone to do with getting him games with regards to a work permit? Which is of course another debate.

This is @ U20 level so they wouldn't count anyway. Plus the fact that Insua has a Spanish passport probably helps.

No, Rafa has let him go, I suspect because both our LBs are fit again and it'll be good experience for Insua.
