I think Xabi is more mobile defensively and People expect Barry to be more mobile attacking-wise which Xabi generally isn't. (Although you could say thats down to Rafa's instructions)

I know a little off topic, but does anyone have any idea how much Daniele De Rossi would cost. Ive watched him for a few years as Im a big fan of Italian football and hes one of the best up and coming european central midfielders.

 

Im a fan of Barry but for the fee of around £15m, there are surely better options around for a similar fee. I think rafa will start to look elsewhere if this final bid isnt accepted.

Superb footballer but a bit too much like Mascherano in the position he plays I think. We need someone a little more cultured in the centre of the park, someone like Xabi Alonso.

I like Toulalan, is here a harder worker than that lad? Not a big name but a great little player. I doubt he would cost more than £10m.

 

There is no way Gareth Barry is worth anywhere over £14m.

De Rossi is at Roma and I doubt he would leave there in all honesty. I'd play Gerrard back there and buy a link man.

In fact I'd challenge anyone to show me a player, lining-up behind a lone striker, that has 20+ goals and assists this season.

Gerrard's performance this year in his new position has been absolutely awe-inspiring. We won't find a player to replace that.

I think it would be madness. Mascherano/Lucas/Barry can nudge the ball around in deeper positions, you want Gerrard where he can hurt teams. It's like having a nuke and using it to block a road; why waste it when it's so powerful a weapon?

I think we'd have more chance of that with Gerrard on the right of a 442 than Gerrard in the middle of a 442.
