Diao going?

Speaking of over-priced signings from France. Heard on the radio at the weekend that French fraud investigators are launching an inquiry into transfers to and from PSG in recent years to identify the recipients of vast sums of money traced to offshore bank accounts. If I heard rightly, some of the transfers involved one Willie Mackay, allegedly, as they say of Have I Got News for You. Could be interesting to see what becomes of that.

This IS a good day. I do feel for Dave's business, though...

I wonder how Diao will do. I can't imagine him actually being as shite as he has been for us. Perhaps playing games regularly will have him perform at a decent level?

He will of course never be good enough for us, let's hope he wants jion them in the summer.

I think this could be the first of a number of outward transfers as Rafa knows he's got to turn the squad around before next season. There could even be a shock or two. What price Dudek to Fulham and Van der Saar the other way? Maybe not, but I'm still very hopeful of another signing or two and the loss of a cacker or two.

In hindsight he might have been playing Diao over Biscan in order to stick him in the shop window. It seems to have worked. I too reckon that we'll see the sale of a few players for the same reasons as Paul. Rafa seems like a very shrewd manager. He might have a few tricks up his sleeve in the summer. We can only wait in hope.

I think he'll make a signing but doubt we'll spend much until we know whether Gerrard and Didi will both be here next year.

We might be thinking about bringing Diarra back but otherwise my betting is on a player from Spain we've not heard of or a cheap £2m-£3m signing from the Prem.Barton/Savage/Faye?

Malbranque would be worth a punt but probably cost too much for this transfer window.Andy Reid anyone?

And don't forget Cheyrou's on his way back ;-)

I just became a proud owner of a brand new red Sheriff t-shirt (in fact, I haven't even got hold of it yet...). D***....

Considering he's still our property I'll be wearing it at least for the rest of the season though.... And, thinking about it, I'm quite releaved he's off. That means more chances for Igor and the young guys, and no chance of him playing (for us) on the 20th of March!!!

Diao's only gone out on loan so it's not going to increase our transfer funds unfortunately. I reckon aws has got it about right, we'll probably bring a cheap midfielder in to tide us over until any investment occurs.

I hope not, imo we don't need more players in that position.

We have Gerrard and Hamann already playing. We have Biscan on the bench, even though I'd rather have him playing instead of Didi. And we have Alonso back in two months or so.

If two out of those three go down before Alonso is back, I'd rather give Welsh or Potter a go in the middle than have another back-up player. So far this season they have been up for it.

They deserve a game or two in middle if we should need it. I'm confident both Potter and Welsh could have done Diao's job, so him going is absolutely NOTHING to worry about or replace.

The only specialist holding midfielders we have for the next three months are Didi who struggles to produce even one good game a week and Welsh who is completely unproven.I don't think Rafa will want the success of his first season to depend on those two particularly with our injury record so far.

Maybe he plans to play Biscan more (and I'd be happy to see him get a run of games to prove himself) but it's a gamble.

I think he'll want more cover.

Why would it be a gamble to play Igor? Right now, I'd play Igor ahead of Didi and use Hamann as back-up. No gamble there, mate.

What actually would be a gamble, is to buy a half-shite player for £2-3M. Let's face it, at that price it's all you're gonna get.

Save the money and spend it on quality in the summer instead.
