Anyway, their keeper should've been booked straight off for that kick. I don't care what keepers do when they're on their line, but walking up to penalty takers or booting the ball away, that should be penalised immediately. i know what you mean but i can just about stomach the WC and European finals because of matches like today's final but the endless dreary qualifiers and friendly's that make up the bulk of International football drives me fucking nuts . It's virtually all shite and disruptive to the domestic game with God knows how many injuries to key players.  On balance I would be quite happy if it were all binned off. The opposite is whats going to happen with greed trumping everything else as FIFA milk the game for every last oil dollar.

Turned out be hugely entertaining after A virus threatened a non event. I have no idea how many French players were affected but they looked shattered as they took to the field. Argentina were cake walking it, but it only takes one moment. Just like the Dutch, France somehow levelled up before running out of time and from then on it was end to end stuff. Shades of ‘66 with a hat trick and two teams just going for it. Messi’s goal almost kicked off the line reminded me of Hurst’s bounce down off the cross bar.

 

In the end, Argentina held their collective nerve through the angst of a penalty shoot out.

 

Messi can retire happy. Mbappe has years ahead of him. I’d love to see him in a red shirt.  Single handedly turned that game around.

Konate was immense once again. Should have started, and maybe France might have sneaked it. Not to be.

The winter thing is bullshit and should never be allowed to happen again. World Cups should be played during the months of June/July. If your country is not suited for football during those months then they should not be hosting it. But as far as the Qatar world cup went, I thought it was one of the more entertaining world cups in recent memory. Some great games, great moments, great final and a fairy-tale ending for the greatest player of our time.

I’ve always wanted the season to be run through March to November cos I fucking hate the cold so I’m all for winter world cups in sunny climes. 
 

I was in no rush for the league to restart after last season and I’m in no hurry for Thursday night either.
