Our midfield

Midfield is broken and is having a bad knock on effect on us going both ways

Trying to force square pegs into round holes and asking players to 'do a job' in there is killing us.

We desperately need two players in there who can do what Gini/Hendo did so effectively at our peak - or we need to simply find a new way to line up and ask players to operate in a system their skillsets/abilities/physical prowress are more suited to...

It’s undeniable that we need legs in the engine room. That is obvious to all of us. We lack legs and energy and needed to be addressed.

Thats not to say we can’t do well, we can and will but it need refreshing to help players like Hendo and Fab. To allow these lads to have a rest and be fresh to play at their peak.  This could be a season or two too transition as we now will be addressing the midfield issue next summer.

I know I keep harping on about it but Ox and Kieta still being here is fucking criminal.

Every effort should have been made to farm these duds out 2 years ago yet here they are still taking up £10 mill a year in wages and we’re bringing in a loan at the last minute on deadline day.

Terrible planning that everyone saw coming except those that matter.

Many clubs were watching their spending, to some extent, after Covid? Who was buying them two?  Two players who spend too much time in the treatment room on massive wages, why would anyone sign them?

We have no problem buying this type of player

Midfield is fucked. It should have been addressed in july. If funds were so limited i don't see the sense in spending money on Nunez. It should have gone towards sorting the midfield out.

Should gradually have sorted it over the last several summers. One or two quality additions each summer would have done it. Jude better be good and a new gerrard. Who’d have thought we’d sign no first team players after the Madrid final. It’s been shite.

We have bigger issues than the midfield at the moment, the midfield has never been the creative force in the side and has always been the functional workhorse.

The fact our defenders and especially fullbacks are having their worst runs coupled with trying to adjust to whatever we're trying to do with Nunez and the impact it has on Salah is far more pressing.

Midfield is so fucking fundamental to our team. Even in 20/21, the thing that fucked us over irreparably was when we had to put the likes of Henderson and Fabinho at CB - they did a fine job there, but the midfield was skeletal.

Since then, we’ve lost Wijnaldum, seen what we do have decline and / or more injury prone and failed to sign the top quality reinforcements needed, instead expecting a teenager to be the change all by himself. It’s just shameful.

Midfield has no effect on attack and defence at all.

Of course it does but this is individuals having massive drops off in form.

If the likes of Robertson, Trent didn't look so horrifically out of form, and Nunez had adapted quicker (including the team adapting to him) then things wouldn't be so bad. It's easier to carry what has always been a functional midfield if your creative and attacking lynchpins are firing.

There’s nothing individuals about it.  It’s the entire team and it stems from the midfield being woefully imbalanced for quite some time.

Weve always been a team that’s more than the sum of its parts and now it’s broken.

But sure, carry on blaming the quality players for not being able to round five players and curl one in the top corner or the right back for not being the most creative player in the league.   They turned shit over night.

I reckon we could have got a taker for Oxlade if he hadn't got injured pre season.

Forest or someone like that.

Sadly the chance went when he got crocked again....hopefully January someone desperate comes in for him.
